Review of RF Video's "Life In The Fast Lane" DVD
Posted: Jan 12th 2007 By: mikeiles
Have you always wanted to purchase a shoot DVD/VHS item from RF Video but could never choose just one of your favorite wrestlers? Thanks the new release ?Life in the Fast Lane? the decision just got a bit easier. Rob Feinstein and his staff have made a documentary, actually a compilation video, using the best of their seemingly endless shoot interview library. This 2 DVD release has interviews with over 50 of the shoots conducted by RF Video over the past years. I must say off the top, it is one of the best DVD?s I have ever watched and I have watched tons of DVD?s on wrestling.
The list of wrestlers featured reads like a wrestling encyclopedia. From the stars of the late 70?s (Abdullah the Butcher, Larry Zbyszko, Dusty Rhodes, David Schultz, Mr. Fuji, Don Muraco), the 80?s (Roddy Piper, Barry Windham, The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal), The Rock-N-Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson), Ricky Steamboat, The Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty), Sherri Martel, Tully Blanchard, Lex Luger, Ted DiBiase, The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart), Billy Jack Haynes), to the stars ruling the rings now (Jeff & Matt Hardy, Raven, Sandman, Steve Corino, Trent Acid, Tajiri, Super Crazy) and the people who have passed on to the next life (Eddie Guerrero and Chris Candido.)
I had to watch it twice to capture the names of everyone on it because I kept getting caught up in what they were talking about. The majority of the interviews deal with life on the road and the craziness it brings from food to airplanes to car rides to backstage dealings, even going insane as Mike Rotunda did according to tag team partner Barry Windham. Other examples include: Roddy Piper on being arrested, Don Muraco on Eddie Gilbert being in a car accident, and Rick Martel?s initial bookings in the US. Ricky Steamboat tells the best story, about an overseas trip immediately following WrestleMania 2.
The majority of the 80?s stars who worked for WWF/WWE (Barry Windham, Paul Orndorff, David Schultz, Billy Jack Haynes, J. J. Dillon, Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts, The Powers of Pain (Warlord & Barbarian) and Tully Blanchard) talk about the grueling schedule they faced each and every day. It will make you appreciate the times you saw them perform in your town. Lex Luger is also included in the travel talk, his topic is the Lex Express tour WWF put him onto promote his match with then champion Yokozuna. The other big topic is the art of ribbing or practical jokes. Mr. Fuji, the Mountie (Jacques Rougeau), Marty Jannetty, Larry Zbyszko and Missy Hyatt share ribs that will make you think twice about ever pulling one for fear of retaliation.
There are some great moments I only read about online. Thanks to the DVD I heard from: The Rockers on being fired from WWF, Raven on the day he walked out on WCW, B. G. and Kip James on their view of the Tough Enough competition, Matt Hardy on how he found out Amy Dumas was cheating on him, and on the second DVD, Sid Vicious talks about the day he was stabbed by Arn Anderson. That?s right there is a second DVD with even more footage from Bobby Heenan, Rey Mysterio, Arn Anderson and Vince Russo. You will be on the floor laughing when Jimmy Hart tells a story of a tag team match and a toupee, or when Taz talks about an interesting meeting with a popular punk band. Also on the second DVD are 3 matches. One is Super Crazy vs. Tajiri from an ECW Fancam in 2001; the other is Eddie Guerrero vs. Low Ki and Sandman vs. Jake Roberts. There is a special Piper?s Pit segment that ends DVD number two.
Whether you are a casual fan or hardcore internet geek this DVD is a must buy. It costs only $20 and can be bought at http://www.rfvideo.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3119&HS=1. This DVD makes me ready to shop around for the full length DVD?s of some of the people featured here.
