Boss Gets Cross With Cross...Like A Boss

Membership has its priveleges. That even applies in wrestling.

When you run the company, you dictate the rules. And if people decide to be on your side, they don't suffer any ill effects. But for those who challenge the authourity of the boss, it can be painful (physically and career-wise) for those individuals.

For almost the entirety of UWE's existance, the pairing of Jon Cross and UWE commissioner Princess Brittani have been one of the centrepieces that the company has revolved around. That seems to have ended after the respect shown by Cross to UWE Champion Fuel when Fuel defeated Cross for the UWE Title in November. Things got worse last month when Cross lost to X-Stat!k. In Brittani's eyes, this brought shame and humiliation to the Commission, which she had just put back together. Cross blatantly refused to participate in the group beatdown of X-Stat!k after the match and left the ring only to return and drive the Commission away.

This would seem to send a message that Cross wanted nothing to do with the Commission. Perhaps Brittani didn't understand that concept. Or maybe she had ulterior motives at work. In either event, Brittani, along with Justin Dynamic & Kyle Everlast, came to the ring last Saturday and called Cross out. Brittani said that she needed Cross to assure her that he was still a member of the Commission. Cross said that he wanted nothing to do with the new Commission. He left because he wanted to prove that he could do things on his own. He then pointed out how disgusted he felt because each of his three UWE Title reigns came due to Princess Brittani's actions. Cross then left the ring and went around ringside, asking various fans their name. He said he wanted to be made by all those fans, not by Brittani, and wants to be a UWE wrestler, not a Commission wrestler. After the Ladder Match with Fuel, it wasn't any of the Commission members who helped Cross to his feet. It was Fuel. X-Stat!k was the only member of the UWE roster to show him respect last month and the Commission rewarded that by beating him up. Cross readily admitted that he was part of the problem and wanted to change that, but he also wanted to make it clear that he didn't want to start a war with the Commission. He's trying to make this easy and just wants out.

None of this seemed to sit well with Brittani, who decided to "reward" Cross' decision by putting him in a tag team partner later that night against Justin Dynamic and Daemon Storm. Cross could even choose his own tag team partner and if he won the match, he was free from the Commission, no questions asked. Cross said that he had spent the past couple of years being the biggest a-hole in the company and he was certain there was no one back there who would be willing to be his partner. As a compromise, he offered to make it a handicap match. Brittani refused this, saying she wanted him to think about it for a bit.

It appeared that Brittani had changed her mind when the time came for the match as Cross still had no partner and the match began as a handicap match. But after just a few minutes, Terry Kage came to the ring. He said that Jon Cross WAS an a-hole, but he couldn't stand the Commission, so he volunteered to be Cross' partner. The partnership wasn't smooth, but it seemed to be effective until Kage went for a leg drop, which appeared to have landed on the chin or jaw of his opponent. Wherever the blow landed, it caused immediate pain and Kage had to be helped from the ring by security and The Mercenary, leaving Cross alone once again. Cross upped his game again, realising he was on his own like he had been at the beginning of the match. And it appeared to work for him as he hoisted Daemon Storm up for a Death Valley Driver. This brought Kyle Everlast down from the broadcast booth and into the ring, earning a DQ against the Commission. They didn't care though and a 3-on-1 attack commenced. But then, to everyone's surprise, Terry Kage, balancing on his kendo stick like a cane, staggered back through the entranceway and into the ring. Kage rolled into the ring, lifted the can like a baseball bat at the Commission as they all backed away, cowering...

...and then turned and slammed the stick straight into the head of Jon Cross.

It had all been a ruse. The injury, the promise of assistance, everything had been done to assure that Cross never suspected Kage of turning against him. As Cross was beaten some more by the Commission, Princess Brittani entered the ring. The Commission members lay Cross' beaten body on a chair in front of Brittani, who calmly revealed that she never needed a white knight. What she wanted was an executioner. Kage then hit Cross with the Kendo stick straight across the back as he lay prone, unable to avoid the shots and protect himself in any way. After the beating stopped, Cross' unconscious body was removed from the ring by other members of the UWE roster and he was quickly taken to the local hospital for evaluation.

Two days later, Cross posted pictures of the damage the caning had done to his back on his Facebook profile. He also posted the following statement on the UWE fan page: "So...after an overnite stay at this lovely medical facility the docs told me I suffered a 'Mild Cervical Dislocation.' I have The Princess and her wonderful Commission to thank for this...specifically Terry Kage and his Kendo Stick. I'd like to inform Mr. Kage that his new role as The Princess' "Executioner" has gotten off to a bad start...because I am alive."

For the past couple of years, Cross has relied on everyone else to help him. Now, there's apparently no one he can rely on and he'll simply have to help himself. Princess Brittani scheduled the UWE Champion (whomever it may be by that time) to defend his title against 3 as-yet-unannounced members of the Commission at the March UWE event in Tahlequah. While Cross certainly is not friendly with any members of the UWE roster, he has shown respect for current champion Fuel. One has to wonder, assuming Fuel is still champion when that match rolls around, whether Cross will play any sort of factor in that match and perhaps gain some revenge on the Commission.
