SRPW Tag Team Championships cursed?
Posted: Sep 20th 2005 By: oklastaff
Current SRPW Tag Team Champions The Phantasy XXXpress seemed to be on the verge of splitting apart last Friday night. Beau Dalton came out to the ring with his partner Austin Idle and told Idle that he had handpicked his opponent for the night. That opponent: "Mountain Man" Terry Montana, who is twice as tall as Austin and outweighs him by over 200 pounds. Terry proceded to obliterate Austin, eventually pinning him and after the match, the tag team champions did not appear to be on the best of terms.
The Phantasy XXXpress are just the latest in the line of SRPW Tag Team Champions to have had their trouble after winning those belts. The line starts with X-Cal & Tarantula. They won the titles over Dynamite Extreme, but at their first scheduled tag title defence, Tarantula no-showed and X-Cal was forced to defend the titles against Northern Threat in a handicap match.
Northern Threat were only able to hold the titles for a week, before losing them to the make-shift team of Ian St. James & Renegade. Dexter Hardaway and Luc Lapointe parted ways a couple of months later and engaged in a bitter feud that lasted most of 2004. Although they seem to have patched up their differences now, they have only tagged together one time this year.
Ian St. James & Renegade only lasted a week together as well when Renegade turned on Ian. But before anything could occur between these 2 teams, Renegade left SRPW for a prolonged period of time. This left the SRPW Tag Team Titles vacant for over a year and a half, until May of 2005, when a tournament victory put the titles in the hands of the 918 Boyz, Cade Sydal and Timmy J. However, the curse still seems to be active as a couple of incidents of miscommunication seem to have created a wedge between Timmy & Cade. Tensions were certainly apparant during the lumberjack match involving fellow 918 Boy X-Cal with Timmy keeping quite a distance from Cade on the outside and leaving the ring when Cade came in to congratulate X on his win.
Only time will tell if this "curse" will affect future teams in SRPW.
