Review Of Guest Booker With Terry Taylor

1987 was a great time to be a wrestling fan. WWF would hold WrestleMania III and the inaugural Survivor Series. The AWA was still going somewhat strong. Some territorial promotions still existed; the Von Erich?s ran Dallas, Jerry Jarrett & Jerry Lawler ran Memphis while the Crockett family had control of the NWA World championships as they ran the Mid-Atlantic area. In April of 1987 they would try and expand nationwide by buying Championship Wrestling from Florida (from the Graham family) and Bill Watt?s Universal Wrestling Federation (formerly called Mid-South) which would bring the Freebirds, Sting, Rick Steiner, UWF Heavyweight champion ?Dr. Death? Steve Williams and a few others into the NWA. The others from both promotions would either fade away; find work somewhere else in the USA or Japan while stars like Ted DiBiase & One Man Gang would jump to WWF.

What if the acquisition was done different, where the UWF/Florida talent was utilized better? That?s where former UWF/WWE/WCW superstar, former head of TNA Talent Relations and former WWF/WCW/TNA creative team member Terry Taylor comes into the storyline. Kayfabe Commentaries boss Sean Oliver sets this scenario up in Guest Booker: the UWF Sale to Crockett. This excellent DVD is broken down into: Background, the UWF Sale & Rebooking the Sale.

Before you get excited to hear why Terry is not working for TNA or any TNA gossip, stop and breathe. There is nothing mentioned here and it?s understandable as it might not be a good story. Terry was working for UWF at the time Bill Watts sold and offers some great insight to what went right and wrong. Terry tells hilarious stories of flying with Dusty Rhodes and how it caused some friction between them for years and working with Kevin Sullivan (the wrestler not TNA producer) in WCW. Terry is given four weeks of TV to build a PPV event and he does a good job by using several UWF members (including the Tag Team champions being himself and ?Gentleman? Chris Adams) in an Invasion-style storyline. That is all I am going to give you as a spoiler because Terry does some real good stuff. I am straight edge but if I wasn?t I would join everyone in playing the ?Who ?Ya Going With? drinking game in the booking segment because we would be drunk before the end.
