Review of The "Bloodstained Memoirs" DVD

If you are looking for a different perspective on professional wrestling, I suggest checking out the documentary ?Bloodstained Memoirs? on DVD. The documentary includes unique interviews in a variety of locations and settings with the likes of WWE hall of famers Jimmy ?Superfly? Snuka and ?Rowdy? Roddy Piper. The two will always be intertwined by the infamous coconut angle on Piper?s Pit. Snuka is asked about the Piper?s Pit segment and also discusses jumping off the top of the cage, using steroids, Hulk Hogan, and working for the McMahons. Piper comments on being stabbed, working with Bret Hart, WCW, being jealous of Hogan, and wrestlers with the reputation of hurting other wrestlers in the ring.

Christian talks about leaving WWE, and joining TNA. Obviously, the interview was taped during his TNA stint and he shares his optimism about the potential growth of the company. Christian Cage, as he was known at the time, also talks about Joe E. Legend and his friendship with Chris Jericho. Speaking of Y2J, he is interviewed about his music career, and challenges of transitioning from wrestling to a different form of entertainment.

I thought the most open and honest interview was with Nora Greenwald, the former Molly Holly. She discusses her faith, and the difficulties of being a Christian of the road. Greenwald also talks about how she was signed by WCW, and how she ended up in WWE. She opens up about how women are portrayed in wrestling, and the development of her different personas.

Rob Van Dam talks about his history in ECW and holding the television title. RVD also talks about training with the Original Sheik and Sabu, working with John Cena and winning the WWE title. Mick Foley is featured in the documentary at a book signing, and cracking a few jokes ? one at the expense of Al Snow, who is the host of this compelling documentary.

?Bloodstained Memoirs? also features two rare interviews ? one with Ultimo Dragon, and the other with The Great Muta. Ultimo Dragon talks about working with Chris Benoit, and is asked to compare Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff. It appears The Great Muta?s interview was conducted in a church, and he speaks in Japanese. (Thankfully, they do provide a translation).

The extras includes more of Roddy Piper, plus an honest interview with Christy Hemme, talking about doing the diva search, learning on the job, and posing for Playboy.

All in all, I enjoyed the ?Bloodstained Memoirs,? and recommend it for wrestling fans. I think it would make a great Christmas gift!
