Hulk Hogan Taunts Jerry "The King" Lawler
Posted: Dec 17th 2006 By: CMBurnham
When Hulk Hogan's daughter Brooke came to Memphis to sign copies of her new CD in early December, just as many fans lined up to meet the Hulkster.
Hogan is no stranger to the Mid-South. He got his start here back in the 1970's. 30 years later, Hogan says he's ready to rumble with his old nemesis.
"Jerry Lawler get ready," Hogan shouted inside the Cordova Walmart. "Hulk Hogan's coming back where I started. I'm taking over and you're the first one who's going down. Lawler, you and me, we're the greatest wrestlers in the world!"
Jerry "The King" Lawler was out of town the weekend the Hulkster issued his challenge. But days later when he found out, Lawler said he'd hop in the ring with Hogan anytime.
"I've heard it all from Hulk before," says Lawler. "But if he's really serious, I'm easy to find."
"The King" says he and Hogan battled many times before in cities all around the country.
"At that time," says Lawler, "we were a seven night a week wrestling company. We were in Memphis on Monday, Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday, then Evansville, Indiana on Wednesday. We traveled all week and then taped the show on Saturday."
Lawler says Hulk Hogan needs to put his muscle where his mouth is. And, adds Lawler, the Hulkster needs to bring his checkbook with him.
"The truth of the matter is," says Lawler, "I personally co-signed for Hulk Hogan's first car. And he skipped town without paying for it. So he owes me money, brother!"
When the wrestling legends went head to head in previous matches, Lawler says he usually came out on top.
"In Memphis," he says with a grin, "I always won."
Wrestling fans can catch more of the Lawler-Hogan rivalry on "Memphis Wrestling" which airs next Saturday, December 23, at 10 p.m. on CW30.
