Oklahoma/Texas Rivalry Fires Up In Southern OK Fed

Oklahoma/Texas Rivalry Fires Up In Southern OK Fed

Posted: Oct 2nd 2011 By: CMBurnham

The rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma has existed almost since the two states came into existence. That rivalry has been played out in many sports, but wrestling is one of the predominant ones. It doesn?t matter where in the state they?re from, if a fan was born in Oklahoma, they?re proud of their roots. And if a wrestler was born in Texas, they want to let everyone know about it.

The recent rebirth of UWF06 in the Ardmore/Davis areas has provided for a resurgence of this Texas/Oklahoma fued and that feud became the centerpiece of the show this past Sunday in Ardmore. ?Honest? Jack Logan, a manager in the NWA Amarillo federation, brought some of his talent up to UWF06 and also took in a longtime Oklahoma veteran in the form of ComPro Champion Tim Rockwell.

Rockwell was none too pleased at the sight of the ?Texas Sucks? T-shirt worn by his opponent, Chri s Morrison. And he and Logan went out of their way to show the upstart rookie that you shouldn?t mess with Texas. While Morrison fought valiantly, the distraction of Logan on the outside combined with the interference the manager was willing to commit was just too much. After a Grapevine DDT, Rockwell secured the win and set the course for what Logan believed was a day of Texas sized domination.

That didn?t end up being the case as Logan was back at ringside for the next match, guiding his son Jake Logan against MSWA Oklahoma Champion Eric Rose. This was a match of high-flying excellence although again, the elder Logan had no problem putting his two cents in. Rose?s experience allowed him to compensate for much of the interference and connect with Trouble In Paradise for the win, bringing the Texas record to 1-1.

Match #3 saw The Canadian Red Devil take on Nathan Briggs. Briggs immediately made no friends with the crowd and targeted the Devil?s leg as a weakness during the match, preventing him from using his finisher, the Face Plant From Hell. But the confidence proved to be Briggs? undoing as he put the Devil in the corner, but when he charged in, Devil caught him with a sunset flip and brought home the win. Briggs was an absolute baby about the loss, throwing a tantrum in the middle of the ring.

These events seemed unconnected to the others at first, but it became clear after the fourth match, which saw Shane Rawls def. Jastin Taylor with a lariat off the ropes, that there was a conspiracy at work here. The Logans, Rockwell and Briggs all stormed the ring and called Commissioner Mike Manos out. Jack Logan said 3 of his 4 men got cheated by a ?bobble headed? ref. Logan then got personal by saying that he wanted to turn Manos upside down and stuff an apple in his mouth. Manos said that in the UWF06, things are done by the book and if Logan was unhappy with the officiating, he should file a complaint with the board of directors. Logan replied that instead of that, he would just burn the place to the ground. Briggs chimed in, saying that Logan was the baddest man in the state of Texas, if not in the world, and told Manos that he was about to receive the beating of a lifetime, Before a hand could be layed on Manos, Chris Morrison ran to the ring and became something of a sacrificial lamb until the Devil, Rose and Rawls all arrived to make the save with some chairs.

Briggs tried to regain some face by saying that the Oklahoma performers were ?Oklahoma trash? because they fought with weapons. Conveniently, he seems to have forgotten that it was a 5-on-1 attack, which almost took place on a non-wrestler. Although they don?t have an official name for their group, it appears a strong faction is now in place in UWF06. The question now becomes whether or not the defending group will be able to remain united and be strong enough to stand against the invading force. Texas prides itself in its ?Never Say Die? history. And with tactics like those Jack Logan?s charges are willing to use, control of UWF06 may be a lot closer than anyone imagines.
