An apology to The Space Cowboy

An apology to The Space Cowboy

Posted: Aug 27th 2011 By: mikeiles

"Everyone makes mistakes oh yes they do."
-Big Bird

Everyone makes a mistake now and then, as the quote above states. The quote above is part of a song that was sung by Big Bird on "Sesame Street". He stated "big people, small people, matter of fact all people" make mistakes. Well, I made a mistake recently and I am now apologizing for the error.

As I was compiling info for The Scoop that was posted on August 9th. I came across the 2011 list of Pro Wrestling Illustrated's "PWI 500". In the list at #422 was Jason Jones. I assumed that the Jason Jones listed was not "The Space Cowboy" Jason Jones who wrestles for Maximum Wrestling Alliance, holding their tag team titles for nearly 8 months. I assumed it was the Jason Jones who wrestled for MWA in November 2009 as H. J. Jones.

The Space Cowboy and I are good friends. He called me after he had heard that a "Jason Jones" was ranked #422. I told him that I saw the list but there was no way to differentiate as to which Jason Jones it was. He said it was him, and I chuckled. I told him that I was pretty sure it probably wasn't him because he only wrestles for 2 feds, one in Oklahoma and one in Arkansas. Plus, because the "other" Jason Jones wrestles primarily for World League Wrestling, owned by Harley Race, and a few other feds in the midwest, plus has done tours of Japan somewhat recently. Cowboy said he was disappointed that I didn't have faith that it was him. I told him, if it comes out it was him, I would write a full apology and post it on Oklafan.

Well, here I am...

He recently called me to tell me I was wrong. I also finally found a copy of the "PWI 500" and lo and behold, at #422 I see the following:

422. JASON JONES (6', 302, 13, NL)
"The Space Cowboy" competes in Arkansas and Oklahoma...Won the Southern tag team title and the Maximum Wrestling Alliance tag team title with Jake Boulder...Was named Most Popular Wrestler and Best All-Around Wrestler in a Mid-States Wrestling fan vote...Had a long-running rivalry with "Hacksaw" Butch Reed...Cites Dan Hodge and Bobby Eaton as his mentors...Pet moves include the Fat Boy dropkick, the Fat Boy splash, the bulldog, and the ".45 Special."

So it turns out, I was wrong. I should have waited for all the info to be posted before presenting it.

Cowboy, I apologize. I will take that crow deep fried please sir.

Sincerely,
Mike Iles
