Foundation Crumbling Apart!

Foundation Crumbling Apart!

Posted: Jul 20th 2011 By: CMBurnham

Since MERC came to Mounds to run their shows, it seems that the dominant group has been The Foundation. Their unified actions, combined with the stranglehold they put on the MERC Patriot Title, forced the fans to take them seriously, even though they might not be the smoothest in-ring performers.

It seemed as though a set back occurred last month when Jake O'Brien finally captured the MERC Patriot Title. And with the announcement that MERC was to become SRPW, he gained something of a 2-for-1 championship, at least as far as his bio reads. Meanwhile, The Foundation began to plot how to come back from this loss, which was the only one a Foundation member suffered at the June event.

Much of the attention in SRPW's return was focused around the re-instated champions and the screw-job that the new management put on O'Brien, resulting in the elimination of the SRPW Patriot title. But the Foundation certainly made thier presence known. Last month, Kyle Everlast had garnered a win over X-Statik. This month, he faced off against Khaos. Two big men throwing their size and power around the ring. It wasn't a technical masterpiece, but a show of determination by both men. A collision with referee John the Encourager in the corner resulted in his being knocked unaware and J. B. Varsity took a chair and slid it into the ring. But Everlast, in an odd show of sportsmanship, too the chair and threw it back out of the ring, telling Varsity that he didn't want to win the match that way. While Everlast and Varsity argued, Khaos was able to sneak behind Everlast and connect with a modified spinebuster for the win. It was not the happiest of birthdays for the "Oklahoma Bad Boy".

Later that night, Everlast & Khaos' respective tag team partners faced off when Robbie Awesome and Anarchy 2nd met in the ring. But things immediately took a turn for the odd when Awesome arrived carrying the original MERC Patriot Title belt. Ring announcer C. M. Burnham inquired as to why Awesome carried the belt, since it he was not amongst the current champions that had been called out near the beginning of the show. Awesome claimed that he never lost the MERC/SRPW Patriot Title and that he is now "The Champion" of SRPW. When Burnham asked if this match was going to be a title defence, Awesome stated that he only defended his title when he wanted to and that the fans in Mounds didn't deserve to see him put his belt on the line. This match was much more high-flying action than the previous Foundation encounter had been, but again, J. B. Varsity proved to be the deciding factor. Varsity grabbed the title belt towards the end of the match, which seemed to irritate Awesome. A tug-of-war followed, which resulted in Awesome yanking the belt away from Varsity, but hitting himself in the head with it. Anarchy took advantage of this to climb to the top rope and hit the Thrill Kill, marking another loss in the Foundation's record.

Following the match, things began to break down quickly as all the members of the Foundation argued amongst themselves before finally leaving the ring. And things hadn't gotten any better the next day as Awesome and Varsity posted FB messages about the situation. Awesome posted It was JB Varsity's fault I lost last night... he tried to still my Championship! This will not be over looked!!!, which Varsity wrote a long statement (which has since been deleted) stating that he had been entrusted by Moses Manson to fill his position and that Moses was very upset to hear about everything that had occurred.

Manson was notable by his absence and things may be back to normal assuming he returns by the time of the next SRPW event. But even if the Foundation isn't crumbling apart, there are certainly cracks that are showing and damaging. With UWE Tag Team & United States Champion Ray Martinez instated as the first SRPW United States Champion and Bobby Burns back in place as the SRPW Champion, it seems that those belts are safe from a Foundation assault. But the new SRPW Tag Team Champions, Smooth Pork, could certainly be tested by any combination of the 3 Foundation members. That is, if they can cooperate long enough to win the match.
