News:
As Kevin Von Erich, his family, and his mother Doris, prepare for their upcoming move to Hawaii, they've decided to put some rare Von Erichs/WCCW memorabilia on the online auction block, starting with a set of track and field medals won by Mike Von Erich while attending Lake Dallas High School. You can keep up with future items offered by the family at eBay by bookmarking http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZknikolas.
Rumors are starting to circulate that World Wrestling Entertainment is seriously considering inducting the entire Von Erich family into its Hall of Fame in the spring of 2007. With the WWE's recent purchase of the WCCW video library (along with the possibilty of the Von Erichs going into the HOF) could a WWE produced Von Erich set of dvd's be far behind?
It should be noted that the World Class video library purchased by the WWE does not include any WCCW shows taped after the 1988 buyout by Jerry Jarrett. That footage is owned by Mario and Angelo Savoldi, former promoters of the Boston-based International Championship Wrestling promotion, which became known as International World Class Championship Wrestling in 1991 after Kevin Von Erich licensed the name, logo and original theme music to the group (and also appeared very briefly on their TV shows). The Savoldis, in addition to the post-buyout World Class and I(WC)CW tapes, also own the footage from USWA Dallas, Wild West Wrestling and the Global Wrestling Federation, from which a few budget-priced DVDs (including the Classic Superstars of Wrestling series, with early footage of Steve Austin, Mick Foley and Booker T) have been compiled
At the September NWA-TNA PPV, Jim Cornette gave his notice to Dutch Mantel and Jeff Jarrett because Vince Russo had been rehired. Jarrett tried to convince Cornette that Russo was a changed man, but Cornette wouldn't buy it. Jarrett told Cornette that he couldn't accept his resignation, and that he would continue to be booked. Cornette was told he would could no show his booked dates, but would come off looking bad if he did. Jim Cornette, who is taking some time off from wrestling to due medical reasons, is no longer the commissioner of ROH.
Apparently Tim Horner was released as an agent because wasn't good with finishes nor fast enough reacting to things backstage.
Ted DiBiase was let go because he had trouble communicating the finishes the office sent for him to give to the talent. DiBiase had been moved to the ECW brand, and was known for writing extremely honest house show reports. There had been talk of WWE inducting DiBiase into the hall of fame, but his release didn't increase his chances.
Believe it or not, at a recent show in Toronto, Jake Roberts pulled out his false teeth in the middle of a match and gave them to a referee.
Mike Johnson reports that Bobby Lashley has asked WWE management to move him over to ECW. Lashley and current Smackdown head writer Michael Hayes have not been getting along and have been invloved in several backstage arguments in recent weeks. Lashley loved working with Paul Heyman in OVW so that is why he has requested to be moved to ECW.
Mick Foley's "The Hardcore Diaries" book is slated for a March 2007 release.
Jeff Jarrett will be doing the monthly Spike TV/TNA Wrestling conference call on Tuesday
Jakks has released the lineup for series 14 & 15 of the Classic Superstars Line. Series 14 will include Honky Tonk Man, Abdullah the Butcher, Demolition Smash & The Ultimate Warrior. Series 15 will feature Lanny Poffo & Ron Bass.
In the new Hogan DVD, from the 1996 Bash at the Beach when Hogan turns heel, they edited out Bobby Heenan's remark "Yeah, but whose side is he on?" from the commentary as well as the responses from Dusty Rhodes and Tony Schiavone.
A funny note from Wednesday?s Raw show in Glasgow. The Spirit Squad got themselves cheered inadvertently because WWE didn't know the local culture. Roddy Piper came to the ring wearing both Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic football scarves. The two local teams are bitter rivals and the respective fans hate each other. During the match, one of the Squad members grabbed his Rangers scarf and started spitting and stomping on it. This led to 90% of the arena cheering him wildly.
Dusty Rhodes is heavily rumoured to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year.
In a recent poll on Gerweck.net, 61% of the readers voted that NWA-TNA should sign Brent Albright to a contract.
Jose Lothario was scheduled to receive a Lifetime Achievement award Saturday night at the Professional Championship Wrestling show in Arlington, TX, but was unable to be present due to a family emergency.
The MSWA show scheduled for November 12 was cancelled because OKC fire marshals declared that the Alliance Arena did not meet the safety code due to ?not enough sprinkler heads?. No date has been set yet for when MSWA will return to promoting, although word from one of the wrestlers is that they hope to get permission to run wrestling cards there, even if they can?t hold other events.
