Rockwell Becomes 1st Grand Slam Champion!

Rockwell Becomes 1st Grand Slam Champion!

Posted: Apr 17th 2011 By: CMBurnham

BYEW Caution Champion Tim Rockwell achieved multiple goals Saturday when he defeated ComPro Champion Dutch Hagen for the title. He gained revenge for the attacks by Hagen on himself and BYEW & NXW Champion Shane Morbid. He drove Hagen out of ComPro. And he became the first wrestler to ever hold all 4 titles in ComPro.

Since losing the Showtime Title to Brandon Walker, Rockwell had decided that it was time to step things up. He had the support of the fans. He had a past association with Hagen's manager, Richard Pierce, which would give him some insight into the strategy Hagen would employ. He even had a major title victory over Hagen when he beat him in a Bullrope match for the TAP Oklahoma Heritage Title. All he needed was an opportunity to face Hagen in the ring.

That opportunity began to present itself on March 12 when Hagen was in the ring with Walker and Walker called Rockwell out. Rockwell had the right to invoke a rematch for the Showtime title, but decided that he would forfeit that in favour of pursuing the Heavyweight Title. He then passed the Showtime title shot to his uncle Bernard Funk. Funk was unable to capture the Showtime title and after the match, Walker attacked both members of Texas, Inc. and was joined by Hagen in the procedings. Hagen laid Rockwell out with the title belt and verbally berated Rockwell for not being in his class. But things would be different after Texas, Inc. reunited for the first since losing the ComPro tag team titles and faced Walker and Hagen in the main event. Rockwell fought out Walker's "Defamation of Character" finisher and turned it into a Cloverleaf DDT to pick up the win. In an interesting move, Hagen did little to nothing to try and help his partner after Rockwell got in. And Rockwell noticed.

2 weeks later Rockwell received a non-title shot against Hagen with the stipulation being that, if he could beat the champion, he would be granted a title opportunity at Night of Champions. Apparently, Richard Pierce wasn't thinking clearly as he blatantly entered the ring and gave Rockwell a low blow, earning Hagen a DQ. That counted as a win for Rockwell, thus earning him a the title opportunity. Hagen was livid, laying out referee Brennan Epperson, then trying to give Chance Snodgrass a Dutch Oven. As he hoisted Snodgrass up, ComPro owner Mike 2 arrived and yanked him down. He then delivered the news about Hagen's forced title defence, but noted that, given Hagen's abuse of offiicials, there needed to be someone there who could stand up to Hagen if need be. Someone who could be a special enforcer. The crowd started to chant Mike's name, but Mike said he'd been there before and instead announced that the special referee would be the man who Hagen abused and beat for the title 4 months before: "Mr. Endurance" Shane Morbid!!

Pierce and Hagen tried one last desperat gamble at Night of Champions, calling Rockwell out and offering him a spot beside them because he can do better. But Rockwell knew what type of snake Pierce was and refused. He started to say that Pierce could take his offer and stick it up his ass, but before he finished that thought, Hagen blindsided him from behind. Pierce, feeling a little more confident, mockingly told Rockwell he should have taken the deal. But that bravado proved to be false when the time for the match arrived.

Rockwell fired up the crowd with some chants about himself, Hagen and Morbid. Morbid got in the act as well, calling Hagen a "jackass". It was clear that bad feelings still lingered between Morbid and Hagen, but Morbid seemed to want to assure everyone that he would call the match down the middle. That wasn't quite the way things started as he called the men together to go over the rules and, in a Bugs Bunny-style moment, stomped Hagen's feet, poked him in the eyes and swatted him in the groin, all the demonstrate things he didn't want to see Rockwell do. Rockwell, with the facade of wanting to clarify the issues, did all the things Morbid did again and Hagen couldn't believe he had just been treated that way. But Hagen remained serious through the joking that Rockwell & Morbid were doing and started out strong in the match. Hagen found a weakness in the left leg of Rockwell and went to work exploiting that, sometimes ignoring the warnings and counts of the ref. This earned Hagen the first of what would be several backchops. Morbid wasn't playing around anymore. Hagen would have to listen to him or he would suffer physical punishment in exchange. Both men then battled to the outside and it looked like there might be a double countout, so Morbid exited the ring and again backchopped Hagen, telling him to get back in the ring. Hagen then locked in the Dutch Cluth, but Rockwell refused to tap and managed to get the ropes. Hagen didn't want to break, so another backchop was ordered. Hagen then went up to the top rope, but was thrown off by Rockwell, who began to turn things around in his favour. Rockwell hit a Cloverleaf DDT, but only got a 2 out of it. Hagen then set Rockwell up for a Dutch Oven, but Rockwell reversed and again connected with the DDT. And this time it worked.

Rockwell had achieved his dream, but the fans still had one more happy moment to come to. 4 months before. Mike 2 had had the opportunity to fire Hagen after he had physically assaulted the ComPro owner. He didn't do that, because he didn't want to strip the title away. But he promised Hagen that as soon as he lost that belt, he would be gone. And good to his word, Mike 2 entered the ring and revived Hagen. He he held up 2 fingers and asked Hagen how many he saw. When Hagen gave the proper amount, Mike said that he just wanted to check and make sure he was aware of what was going on...and then promptly fired him!

Tim Rockwell now has held every title in ComPro. He already had one notable title achievement as he and Bernard Funk were the very first ComPro Tag Team Champions. Now, he holds the ComPro Heavyweight Title and is looking to again reach the heights that he did in 2007 when he was ranked the #1 wrestler in the Oklafan Top 50. Rockwell has every tool needed to be the best in the state. And once again, he has the gold to prove it.
