The Nightmare Begins!

The Nightmare Begins!

Posted: Mar 16th 2011 By: CMBurnham

Oklahoma began another chapter in its wrestling history with the debut of Nightmare Xtreme Wrestling in Tulsa last Friday. And when that chapter ended, one of the best in the state once again stood tall as a Triple Crown Champion.

The event boasted 8 matches and opened with a Gold Rush Rumble, where every 30 seconds a new wrestler came to the ring. The final 4 combatants in this match would go on to face each other in a 4-Way Extreme Rules Elimination Match to become the 1st ever NXW Champion. And the talent roster included a variety of big names.

There were proven commodities such as SWCW Tag Team Champion Tyson Jaymes, SWCW Hardcore Champion Rick Russo and UWE Tag Team, MWA Tag Team & MSWA Oklahoma Champion The Max (aka Max McGuirk). And there were completely unknown commodities such as James Stevens, Gravenn Wolff and Jeff Standards.

But when that match ended, the four men who stood represented an equally interesting assortment of wrestlers from Oklahoma.

First of all, there was former WWE superstar Gangrel. The star power who drew many of the fans to this show. With his unique ring entrance and towering size over practically all the competition, he certainly looked to be a favourite in the match.

Then there was TAP & BYEW Champion Shane Morbid. 10 years of domination brought Shane to this point. Last year, he established a Triple Crown championship by holding the ComPro, TAP Oklahoma Heritage & MWA MAX-Division Titles all at the same time. He wanted to do the same again this year with 3 different titles. He just had to make it through the main event.

The 3rd competitor was a complete unknown in the form of Super Skunk Ape, Jr. This was his first docmented match in the state of Oklahoma and possibly his first match ever. No information about him was provided except that he was from The Everglades, but he certainly had some size and a unique mixture of ground and aerial attacks to work with.

And then there was Sam Stackhouse. In weight alone, he was larger than any of the other 3 men. But in addition to that, Stackhouse is very light on his feet, able to execute moves like a Pele kick with ease. Good-natured and charismatic, Stackhouse was probably the crowd favourite going into that final match. He hoped to win his first Heavyweight Title after having been active for a little over a year and a half.

After all 4 men arrived for the main event, things happened very quickly. Gangrel was the first eliminated after a rollup by Shane Morbid. This seemed to catch the audience by surprise as they figured, since he had more experience than the others, he would last and be one of the final 2. He didn't seem very happy with the loss either, but instead of sulking off to the dressing room, he took a seat by security and watched the remainder of the main event.

Next to go was Super Skunk Ape Jr, who got powerslammed by Sam Stackhouse. This left Stackhouse and Morbid, both of whom were bleeding heavily by this point. These two had crossed paths in ComPro, with Stackhouse turning on Morbid during one of Morbid's attempts to reclaim the ComPro Title from Richie Adams. So bad blood certainly lay dorment in setting.

But both men were very surprised when Gangrel made his way to the announce table, grabbed his goblet of blood and drank it, then spit it in Stackhouse's face, letting Morbid connect with the Leroy Jenkins clothesline for the 3-count.

And thus Morbid established his second Triple Crown Title. Now the challenge comes in defending it successfuly. No shows have been lined up for any of the three federations that Morbid represents, but as soon as they are, Morbid will be preparing to show why he is one of the most dominant champions in the state of Oklahoma.
