Fans Taken Beyond Their Entertainment In Fed's OKC Debut
Posted: Feb 24th 2011 By: CMBurnham
Oklahoma City fans have even more wrestling to look forward to as BYEW has set up shoppe in the area. The federation, which originated in Wichita, KS and has run shows in Kingfisher, OK and Guthrie, OK, brought its excitement to the OKC area, mixing stars from the area as well as many faces from the Tulsa area which hadn't been seen in Oklahoma for quite a while.
3 titles were filled in the inaugural show. The BYEW Caution Title, which is similar to the WWE World Hardcore Title in that it has a 24/7 clause on it, was filled in a Fatal 4-Way Match with some of the best and brightest in Oklahoma. Chris Morrison, Bobby Star, UWE Tag Team and MSWA Oklahoma Champion Max McGuirk and TAP Oklahoma Heritage & ComPro Showtime Champion Tim Rockwell battled in a match that saw action go everywhere in the ring. None of these men are what one would call Hardcore specialists, but they all seemed to adapt to the style with relative ease. In the end, McGuirk hit his patented 450 Splash on Star and filled the vacant title. But as mentioned, the 24/7 rule was in effect and Tim Rockwell took the opportunity to sneak in behind McGuirk and roll him up for a 3-count. Both men could lay claim to being Triple Crown Champions, but Rockwell emerged the long-term claimant to the crown and the prestige of holding 3 belts in 3 different federations.
In one of the more intriguing confrontations, the BYEW Tag Team Titles were filled in a competition between a long-term established tag team and a team that had never worked together before. Drake Gallows and Chris Chaos opened the BYEW show with a 15-minute time limit draw in which each man matched and countered the moves and expectations of the others. After the bell had run, Gallows & Chaos shook hands in the middle of the ring and declared their respect for each other. And that was the moment that New Age Syndicate chose to hit the ring and attack the two. Sometimes for hire, but always for themselves, Scott Sanders and Shawn Sanders then declared that they were the most dominant tag team in Oklahoma, if not the world. All the other tag teams had broken up, like the Rock-N-Roll Express or Team 3-D. They even dropped the name of X-Rated, saying that they were working across town for a "cut-rate promotion". New BYEW commissioner Shawn Bragan arrived and announced that since the team that the NAS were supposed to face (Jesus Rodriguez & Romo Cruz) weren't present, he would go ahead and make a match for the tag team titles between the New Age Syndicate and the new "friends", Gallows & Chaos. That new team declared themselves the Kings of Nothing and seemed to live up to their name as Drake Gallows was able to contribute almost nothing to the match. During the post-match beatdown after the opening match, the NAS targeted Gallows' knee, hobbling him and making him almost ineffective in the match. That injury became the target for the Syndicate during the match, preventing them from gaining any offence and resulting in a relatively easy match for the twin brothers. Not satisfied with that, the Sanders' laied both men out with shots to the head from the title belts before leaving the ring area.
The main event was a 9-man Battle Royal to fill the vacant BYEW Title. There were men of all sizes and experiences in this match with obvious favourites (Sam Stackhouse, J. W. Hardin) and obvious underdogs (Ronnie Storm, Steven Sterling). The final 3 were Stackhouse, Drake Gallows and TAP Champion Shane Morbid. Crisstopher Crow, who had earlier been eliminated from the match after entering late came back out to ensure that his brother got thrown out. This seems to have been revenge for Gallows distracting Crow during his match with Sam Stackhouse earlier in the night. Rigth after Gallows was thrown over, Morbid snuck in behind the gentle giant and upended him over the top (and right on top of Gallows) and won the match. Morbid was amazed and took the microphone to try and brag about his accomplishment to the crowd, but some of the fans had purchased air horns and would not let Morbid's voice be heard. Stackhouse made his way back into the ring and grabbed the title belt in an effort to get Morbid's attention. Like in the first match, Stackhouse wanted to show respect by shaking the hand of the new champion, but Morbid had no interest in that and clobbered Stackhouse with a Leroy Jenkins clothesline.
BYEW has not announced a date for their next show, but as soon as they do, Oklafan will bring you the information.
