Cody Jones' Ego Runs Out of Control

MSWA Mid-South Cruiserweight Champion Cody Jones may be nicknamed "The Human Highlight Reel", but it seems that a more appropriate nickname these days would be "Mr. Self-Obsession" as he is interested in no one but himself, even turning his back on his own father.
Cody's attitude change can be traced back to the summer months, when he tried to break out of the Cruiserweight division and challenged MSWA Oklahoma Champion Michael Faith for that title. But after suffering a loss in a triple threat match that also involved E-Bone and then losing 2 #1 contender's matches to Beau Dalton and yet another Triple Threat Match with Dalton & Faith, it seemed that the Oklahoma Title was outside Cody's grasp and he made plans to capture the Cruiserweight Title for a 2nd time. However he didn't seem content to go about this the traditional way, instead turning his back on the fans and becoming a cocky, arrogant rulebreaker.
Cody's arrogance first displayed itself Septemeber 29th, when he was challenged by Lexi Starr in what would be MSWA's first ever Intergender match. Cody won the match, although he resorted to pulling Starr's tights to do so. But throughout the match, Cody ridiculed his opponent, stating that she had no place in the ring against him.
Two weeks later, Jones defeated Tyler Bateman for the Cruiserweight Title, the 2nd in his time in MSWA. Cody had previously defeated current MSWA Mid-South Champion & IZW Impact Division Champion Ryan Davidson for that belt, back in January, holding it for about 2 1/2 months before losing it to Seth Allen.
Cody's actions went from arrogant to downright disrespectful this last Sunday as he targeted not only another member of the MSWA locker room, but his own family as well. Bateman exercised his rematch clause for the title and that match opened the card. Bateman & Jones wrestled to a 10-minute time-limit draw and Cody quickly grabbed his belt after the match and went to the back, very conscious of the fact that Tyler had covered him as the bell rang and it was possible he might have lost the title right there. But that wasn't it for Jones. A commercial was filmed at intermission for the Southside Tough Man Contest, which will happen on Veteran's Day (November 11) at the Alliance Arena. Jones and MSWA rookie Eric Rose took part in an exhibition match which was filmed for commercial purposes during intermission. Neither wrestler was a clear cut victor, but the match wasn't really a strong competition. Jones must have felt a little offended at something, though, as he suckerpunched Rose after the commercial had finished fiming and went back to the lockerroom area.
The final event, though, was the worst. Sunday was the birthday of Cody Jones' father, "Mr Ebony" Tom Jones. Tom is a legend in the Oklahoma City area and is present at every MSWA show. He runs the training school for MSWA. The management and many of the wrestlers had pitched in to get Tom a birthday cake to celebrate the occassion and MSWA announcer Jesse Storm called Tom into the ring to present it to him. The locker rooms emptied and applause was given from all wrestlers...except Cody Jones, who just stood at ringside and stared at his father in contempt. Tom announced to the crowd that, due to an injury suffered at the hands of Skandor Akbar in Arkansas back in Septemeber, he was unable to see out of his right eye and would need surgery soon to correct this problem. Again, no emotion came from Cody, who simply stared at the ring until the ceremony was over, then was the first to leave the ringside area, all while other wrestlers were helping his father exit the ring.
Oklafan contacted Cody Jones by e-mail to ask for some sort of explanation about his recent actions. We received the following e-mail from him, brief and to the point: "I know my dad is a legend, but it's time for him to step aside because I'm "The Human Highlight Reel" and I'm the next generation of professional wrestling and nobody can change that!"
Now on his own, how long can Cody stay champion? With newcomers like Eric Rose and Mr. Mid-South II as well as proven veterans like Tyler Bateman challenging for that title, Cody's new attitude may cost him his top status in the Cruiserweight Division.
