Jack Swagger got married over the weekend of December 17-18 to 24 year old former WWE developmental wrestler and Maxim Model Catalina White. ?Sitting in first class w/Mrs.Swagger, heading to a romantic Tables Ladders and Chairs match honeymoon,? the former World champion wrote on Twitter on Sunday. White wrestled in Florida Championship Wrestling under the names of Veronica Blaze and Saylor James between October 2008 and March 2009 and never made it on WWE TV although she did appear on episodes of FCW. A year prior to joining WWE she filmed a sex tape which was then released through adult film distributor Shane?s World. It had been originally reported that they were married back in April 2010 the day after Swagger defeated Chris Jericho for the WWE SmackDown! World Title but apparently that report was inaccurate.. You can meet the new Mrs. Swagger by looking at some of her stunning photos and a preview of her "academy award performance" from the tape at http://w-o.it/dWCuCi
As rumored for a while now, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Chavo Guerrero has been playing Jack Swagger's ?Soaring Eagle? for WWE as of late.
The Hollywood Reporter published the 80 Greatest Moments in TV for their 80th anniversary issue and listed Jerry Lawler?s confrontation with Andy Kaufman in the 30th spot. The incident happened on July 29, 1982 when Lawler slapped Kaufman during an episode of ?Late Night? with David Letterman" and Kaufman threw coffee on Lawler in retaliation. The segment generated a lot of buzz at the time and everyone thought the two hated each other for real but later Lawler revealed that the whole thing was staged and the two were good friends. Lawler wrestled Kaufman a few months before in Memphis after ?The King? took exception to Kaufman?s skits where he wrestled women declaring himself the Intergender Heavyweight Champion. In their match Lawler planted two piledrivers on Kaufman which sent the comedian to the hospital.
Charlie Haas posted the following on Twitter regarding Kaval's release from WWE: "Sorry to hear the news of Kaval being released. Especially before Christmas. What a gift. Shows how classless WWE is. Low Ki ur better off ? Anyways. Kaval is one of the best talents in the world. No doubt he will prevail else where. Much respect and love for him."
MondayNightMayhem.com recently interviewed ROH booker Dave Lagana and amongst the questions he was asked was what the news of Wrestling?s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas) joining Ring of Honor full-time says about the direction of ROH & their continued focus on excelling the company?s tag team division. His response was, ?I think the wrestling landscape is changing in 2011, and I think it needs to. I?ve gone one on record and said this time period reminds me a lot of 1991, and that was the period that things changed a lot. I think we?re at that point, and guys like Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin were guys that were heavily misused in their time in the WWE, except for the time they were a tag team together. We knew they weren?t going to be available to be on the Pay-Per-View. Like we did with Davey (Richards) at Glory By Honor, let them be on the show and make an announcement that was very heavy. It?s a big deal they are going to be part of our tag team division. They just add another level to our roster.? You can listen to the entire interview at www.MondayNightMayhem.com
MondayNightMayhem recently interviewed Dwayne Gill (aka Gillberg) where he revealed who came up with the concept of Gillberg: ?That was the whole funny part about it because Gillberg was supposed to be a onetime thing. I had come up with Gillberg on the independents. I was out just making fun of wrestlers. I did ?Stone Old?. ?The UnderFaker?. I wore a wig and everything, you know. Then I had done Gillberg. I was telling Paul Bearer and Kane in the hallway one night and they?re laughing. I said, ?Yeah. I did Gillberg.? And Paul Bearer goes, ?Gillberg? Huh? You know, you look just like?Ohhhhhh, Duane Gill. I think you?ve come up with something.? I?m like, ?What are you talking about, Paul?? And he?s like, ?Nothing, nothing, nothing.? So then the rest of the night, every time I walked by them, Kane and Paul Bearer would go, ?Gill-berg! Gill-berg!? Gill explains how Paul and Kane orchestrated a lunch room chant the next day that began the ball rolling for the debut of Gillberg in WWF. But while all this was going on, the target of Gill?s humor was over in WCW?steaming about it. James asks if he had heard anything initially, before their eventual meeting, about how Bill Goldberg was taking the joke and, as he tells ClubWWI.com member, Bill?well, didn?t take the joke well at all. ?He hates my guts. He hates my guts to this day. He did not take a joke. He hated it. He wants to whoop my ass seriously. I honestly believe that?s why Vince (McMahon) never had the match Gillberg-Goldberg because of the fact that he would have probably ended my career and life. I?m a little guy, man.? You can listen to the entire interview at www.MondayNightMayhem.com
Former pro wrestler Ted Arcidi, who in the 80s for WWF, World Class and Stampede Wrestling, and was also the world record holder at one point in the bench press, plays a promoter in a very brief (like 20 seconds) scene in the movie "The Fighter."
For those who grew up during the territorial days on the West Coast there is an awesome video at http://wrestlingclassics.com/.ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=113867 covering the three major circuits of the 60s and 70s with lots of interview clips with Ray Stevens, Fred Blassie, Dutch Savage, Buddy Rose, Pat Patterson, Superstar Graham, John Tolos and others.
Fans who attended yesterday's live WWE event at MSG were treated to a rare Piper's Pit with the WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper hosting as usual. Piper talked about the "50 Greatest Superstars of All Time" DVD and brought out fellow Hall of Famer Tito Santana to argue with. After going at each other about who would win a fight between them, the anonymous RAW General Manager sent the Usos to escort the two Legends from the ring because the segment was "boring." The Hall of Famers eventually tossed out the Usos out of the ring for a standing ovation from the crowd.
Tons of trouble with the weather regarding Sunday night's show. Several reports said it did not feel like an MSG show when it comes to atmosphere. For talent, they had a lot on their minds, including how they were going to have to get to Albany today in the blizzard. Ring announcer Justin Roberts arrived late and they had to have someone fill in for him who didn't appear to know how to ring announce. The only referee that arrived was Charles Robinson, so James "Nunzio" Maritato, who came to the show to visit with some friends, and was recruited to be a referee. Several people from Florida including Sgt. Slaughter, Heath Slater and Alicia Fox didn't make it. Tito Santana was contacted since he lives in the area to sub for Slaughter as the guest in Piper's Pit.
Jim Ross posted on Twitter: ?Amazing crowd of appx 15,000 in MSG Sun nite in the middle of a blizzard. Great fans in Big Apple!? and ?King had 2 fly into Rochester 2day & drive 2 Albany in big time snow. Flt 2 Albany cancelled.?
