Outlaw's New Attitude: Will It Cost Him His Career?
Posted: Oct 3rd 2006 By: CMBurnham
Oklahoma City veteran wrestler Outlaw seems to have softened his approach to the ring in recent weeks. The man who once scowled and barked at the crowd with vile and venom now has adopted something of a calmer approach when dealing with his opponents. And the crowd appears to be supportive of this change. But, as demonstrated last Friday, that change may not be helpful for remainder of his career.
The change for Outlaw seems to stem, at least in part, to the match he had with his former tag team partner Slash on August 19. Outlaw defeated Slash in a Hardcore Match and in the process caused severe injury to Slash's elbow, putting him out of action for the time being. The night before, he had defeated Shane Rollings to earn a title shot at any MSWA Champion he wanted and cashed in that shot on August 27 against MSWA Mid-South Champion Ryan Davidson. But he came up short in that attempt and Ryan retained the title. On Septmber 9th, Outlaw faced Overdose in a No DQ Match and ended up losing that match when he was hanged over the top rope with Overdose's chain, allowing Overdose to gain some revenge for Slash's injury.
When Outlaw came to the MSWA ring this week, he looked to be a changed man. He was cordial to MSWA ring announcer Jesse Storm. He mentioned that he's been thinking about his career and, since he just turned 47 years old, a lot of people might think that he's over the hill. But he believes that he still has one title reign in him. He called Ryan Davidson a great champion. He said he's not a Cruiserweight, so he can't challenge for that. He doesn't have a tag team partner anymore with Slash on the shelf, so he asked MSWA Oklahoma Champion Michael Faith for a title shot. Faith came out and agreed to that, but then inexplicably Egoslammed him and began to beat on him until MSWA Commissioner (and Faith's brother) Halo came out from the back. Halo shoved his brother and told him this wasn't what they agreed to. He then Clawbombed Outlaw and said "THIS is what we agreed to." The Forsaken then continued to beat on Outlaw and left the ring together. Outlaw had to be helped from the ring by MSWA security and, while he did come out during intermission to sign autographs, he certainly appeared beaten up and in great pain.
Outlaw did not appear at the AACW show the next night, although his brother Dominator rejoined the Corporate America family, lead by their sister Talon. Talon has not issued any statement regarding her brother or the actions taken against him.
Before Outlaw left the MSWA ring, he did take the microphone and tell Michael Faith that he would have to kill him to stop him from taking the Oklahoma Title. Can Outlaw achieve one last run at the top? Hopefully, Outlaw's ego and bravado won't get in the way of his health and well-being in this situation.
