Armstrong Targets McGuirk, Comes To Walker's Aid

Armstrong Targets McGuirk, Comes To Walker's Aid

Posted: Sep 22nd 2010 By: CMBurnham

When you've been out of the spotlight for almost a year, you need to do something drastic to make an impact. And that's exactly what Tyson Armstrong did this past Saturday.

The last time ComPro fans saw Armstrong, he had just won the 2009 Halloween Hardcore Battle Royal. It seemed like he was prepared to take the next step up and challenge for the ComPro Title held at that time by Draven Cross.

But Tyson disappeared. Completely removed himself from the pro wrestling picture in Oklahoma for several months. And when he came back, it wasn't at ComPro, but in UWE where he became part of Princess Brittany's Commission with Ray Martinez, Brett Taylor and UWE Champion Jon Cross. But even with that action, Tyson still wouldn't step back into the ring until this past August as part of a 6-man tag team match where he spent most of the match on the ring apron.

For a man who likes to call himself the "Knockout King", Armstrong certainly didn't seem very confident in his skills. But he arrived prepared to reemerge on the scene in ComPro and was escorted to the ring as the show opened by ComPro owner Mike Two. Armstrong briefly addressed the crowd, reminding them of his success in the previous year and stating his hope that he would be able to repeat this year. After that point, Mike Two told the crowd that it would be a Fans Bring the Weapons event when the 2010 Halloween Hardcore Battle Royal was held on October 30. Armstrong then took a seat amongst the fans to watch and enjoy the show. Or so it appeared.

The semi-main event saw Brandon Walker face Max McGuirk. Walker was obviously upset that McGuirk's sometime-tag team partner Justin Lee wasn't present, but Max didn't seem to think he was playing second fiddle to anyone as he bounded to the ring with amazing energy. In July, McGuirk had pulled off a win against Walker by DQ when Walker deliberately lowblowed McGuirk. At that point, Justin came to the rescue and "Bad Bromance" was alive and well in ComPro.

But Max was on his own in this match. Despite being the larger man, McGuirk never let Walker completely outthink him. That didn't mean that Walker didn't have some desperate measures ready to put into play. When McGuirk went to deliver a springboard dropkick, Walker shoved referee Mark Wilson in the way and McGuirk's feet connected with Wilson's chest, knocking him down. McGuirk then hit a Death Valley Driver and went for the pin, but Wilson hadn't yet recovered. At that point, Tyson Armstrong, who had very quietly and politely been watching the show, ran into the ring and attacked McGuirk, ultimately laying him out with Ground Zero. He then went and revived Mark Wilson as Brandon Walker lay on top of a prone McGuirk and the 3-count was made in Walker's favour.

That wasn't enough for the egotistical duo as they committed a brief attack on McGuirk who lay helpless as Justin Lee was not booked on the show that night. And thus a message was sent to Bad Bromance and any other tag team that there was a new duo in town. Although they've made no official statement in this regard, rumours have reached Oklafan that they intend to call themselves the Tulsa Ego Squad (or perhaps just T. E. S.). Rumour has also been heard that there is at least one more member of T. E. S. yet to be revealed, but the identity of that 3rd member remains a complete mystery at this time.

McGuirk may have an opportunity to gain some revenge at the Halloween Hardcore Battle Royal on October 30th. And he won't have to do it by himself. He'll have plenty of other people in there with him as well as whatever weapons the fans bring to him. Armstrong seems to have made a poor choice in getting on the bad side of McGuirk. And that mistake may force him to take another extended vacation from wrestling, although this one might be more permanent.
