Love Him Or Hate Him, Max Is Back

Last year, Max McGuirk had the opportunity of a lifetime. He received a WWE developmental contract and moved to Florida to begin work towards becoming a WWE superstar.

It didn't work out and he returned to Oklahoma at the beginning of 2010. Slowly but surely, Max has made his way back into the federations around the state. And this past weekend, Max's presence was strongly felt, even if the fans weren't always in agreement with him.

One of Max's closest friends in the business is Justin Lee and the pair hoped to be able to tag team at the TAP show this past Saturday. That didn't happen, as Max was scheduled for a 4-way Elimination match while Justin was paired of in a singles competition against Ignition. Justin came to his match alone while Ignition brought his brother, TAP Champion Reckless as well as TAP Co-Commissioner J. P. Steele. Outnumbered 4-to-1, Justin did everything he could to make sure that he came out on top. He never complained about the odds, nor did he allow them to interfere in the match until J. P. distracted the referee and Reckless snuck into the ring, kicking Justin in the back of the head. Ignition then connencted with a belly-to-back suplex and won the match. The Saints of Twilight began to double team "The Broken Arrow Bad Boy" until Max McGuirk came to his friend's aid.

The roles were reversed a couple of matches later. Max was scheduled for a 4-Way Elimination match against Ty Thunder, ComPro Showtime Champion Evan Newcastle and SWCW Champion Rick Russo. Max was able to eliminate Newcastle after several minutes of action, but then the Saints reappeared along with J. P. and El Grande Jabroni (who turned out to be the suspended Michael York in a mask). This threesome attacked McGuirk and there wasn't anything referee Chance Snodgrass could do about it since there are no DQ's in 4-Way Matches. But just as he had been helped earlier, Justin Lee ran in to help his partner and the pair who unofficially dub themselves "Bad Bromance" fought off the SoTs and their cohorts. Somewhere in the midst of this, McGuirk was eliminated from the match, although whether by countout or pinfall is unknown.

McGuirk then ventured down to Midwest City and returned to his old stomping grounds in MSWA. When he was last seen there, he was 1/3 of the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions T. M. S. But that group was gone and Max found himself on his own. As much as he was loved in his home town of Wagoner, the fans in Midwest City despised McGuirk when the last saw him. But after being announced by Milton Winkelman, McGuirk received a "Welcome Back" chant as he made his way to the ring. McGuirk had apparently forgotten Milton's name, calling him "Whippleman" and then went on to say that Florida Championship Wrestling was OK, but the past was the past. He told a story about how his birthday had passed recently and he had received a 2010 Camaro. He was upset about this, because if his mom had spent just a little more money, she could have gotten him a 2011. He also related an instance where he was returning from a trip that he took to Cancun and the champagne he was served was in a warped glass. He said that when he came back, he got a call to come back to MSWA and proceded to put himself over as a YouTube Superstar. This brought out Tyson Jaymes who said that he was the other subject of that YouTube documentary, entitled "Super Heroes". Tyson said he had worked for everything he had, but Max had everything handed to him. Max said he was the star. Tyson proposed that they have a match to settle the difference. And for the first time in over a year, Max prepared to compete in the MSWA ring.

Jaymes has been rather directionless in recent months. His win-loss record isn't horrible, but the wins have been relatively meaningless. McGuirk has been looking to make an impact since his return and he measured up to that with a win that made it clear Max was back to collect some gold, cash some paychecks and break some rules.

Everywhere Max has been over the past few months since his return, he's been embroiled at the centre of a major issue. In MWA, Max cost Michael Barry the MWA Title. TAP now sees a potentially new rising tag team. And MSWA sees the return of someone who could either team with Dane Griffin and reform one of the best tag teams in the state in the past year or who could make a stab for MSWA Oklahoma Champion Kevin Morgan and hope to capture his first singles belt. Whatever Max's decision, he'll do it as a wiser, more polished performer than he was when he left. And he'll do it by his rules, whether that involves the fans or not.
