Tazer, Tazer...Who's Got The Tazer?
Posted: Jun 3rd 2010 By: CMBurnham
Professional wrestling began as a sport pitting two men against each other in a contest to determine who was superior, but, as always, there are people who simply can't follow the rules and seem determined to bring something in to tip the balance in their favour. Sometimes it's a steel chair or a bullrope or a leather strap. Most recently in IZW, it's been a tazer.
Bernie D introduced the tazer recently in IZW as a means of countering the sneak attacks that Impact, Inc. had been making on himself and various other IZW roster members under the orders of MSWA Mid-South Champion Johnny Z. For quite a while, Bernie had stood alone in his fight against his former stable. But he needed an equalizer for those moments when the tide turned against him and numbers became overwhelming. Thus, the introduction of the tazer. Austin Tacious felt the wrath of the tazer first when he was hit in the groin with it, aggravating an injury he already had and forcing him to seek surgery which will keep him out of action for months. Now, Bernie turned his attention to more serious matters.
With IZW's June spectacular "Evolution" rapidly approaching, Bernie and Johnny were signed to face each other in a match, but they weren't the only former partners to find themselves across the ring from each other. The former members of BLK-OUT, Jermaine Johnson & Montego Seeka, were also set to battle after Johnson turned on Seeka in a match he was special referee for and ended their partnership of almost two years. Since that time, Johnson has whined and complained about not receiving the respect he thinks he deserves and that was how the show started this past Saturday.
Johnson came to the ring and, despite the chants of "Crybaby" from the crowd, said that he had nothing to cry about. He said he turned his back on the fans because they disrespected him. He was upset that IZW Co-Commissioner Sam Helton had named Angel Williams the #1 contender to the IZW Title when he had beaten Angel the previous week (although he neglected to mention that he had help from Aaron Neil to get that done). Now, he's set for a "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal" match against Montego. Johnson promised that Montego would bleed, lose and be gone from IZW.
At that point, Johnny Z & Steve O came to the ring, which upset Johnson as he felt it was disrespectful of them to interrupt him. Johnny calmed Jermaine down by saying that he knew Jermaine "got it". For two years, the had competed against each other and it was obvious to everyone that Jermaine had all the tools to be successful. He could only see one thing missing and that was a spot in Impact, Inc. Johnny offered Jermaine an Impact, Inc. t-shirt, but before Jermaine could make a decision to accept of refuse, Montego hit the ring to attack his former partner. For a brief time, things looked good for "The Rastafarian Flyer", but Johnny & Jermaine quickly took over. Then, Bernie D arrived, tazer in hand and cleared the ring.
Bernie took the microphone and said that the days of Impact, Inc. jumping everyone were over. He threatened to light Johnny up with the tazer and went on to say that even when he was teaming with Johnny, he knew he was a piece of trash. At the same time, he didn't like Jermaine, but he respected him. That respect was earned, not given and now it was lost because of Jermaine's actions. Bernie proposes a tag team main event for that night: Johnny Z & Jermaine Johnson vs. Bernie D & Montego Seeka. Sam Helton emerged from the back and confirmed that match to the fans' enjoyment.
When the time for the main event came, one more snag was thrown into the mix. Steve O wasn't present at ringside, but fellow Impact, Inc. member Randy Price was. He remained at ringside for the duration of the match, sticking his nose in and helping in the illicit attacks that occurred behind referee Jimmy Deen's back. Ultimately, Deen was annhilated in the corner by accident and things began to go south from there. Seeka had Johnson down for a pin, but Price grabbed the tazer from Bernie's corner and tried to use it on Bernie. For some reason, Price couldn't get the thing to work, so Bernie snatched it out of Price's hand and turned it on. This delay had allowed Johnny Z to make his way around to the ramp where Bernie and Price were. He kicked Bernie in the head, grabbed the tazer and tazed Montego in the butt as Seeka was poised on the top rope to jump off and connect with the Tech-9 on Johnson. Jermaine covered the prone Seeka and Johnny tazed Jimmy in the butt to wake him up so he could make the count.
The dastardly trio's fun wasn't over after the official ending of the match, though. Price and Johnson hoisted Seeka up and held him as Johnny prepared to taze him one more time. But Bernie D grabbed a chair and charged into the ring, prompting the evil threesome to scurry out of the ring as quickly as possible. Bernie grabbed the microphone and called them back to the ring, promising it wouldn't take long "to kick your asses". But after appearing to man up, Johnny , Jermaine & Randy all retreated back up the ramp, tazer in their possession and called it a night.
It seems that the tazer is sufficiently important at this point to both Johnny & Bernie. And while it's not a guarantee, given the nature of the Evolution event, the idea of a "Tazer on a Pole" match, or some equivalent, seems like a good idea to have on the wheel. Some of the IZW fans even proposed this to Sam Helton at intermission and he said he would consider it. Whatever the decision, there is little doubt that the tazer will work its way into at least one of the matches on June 19, if not more.
