Jerry Lawler's Memphis Wrestling Debuts

Jerry Lawler's Memphis Wrestling Debuts

Posted: May 22nd 2010 By: CMBurnham

I just got back from the first TV taping for ?Jerry Lawler?s Memphis Wrestling? and while I didn?t stay till the end, I certainly liked what I saw.

Behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera you could see a lot of the glory days of Memphis Wrestling involved. Men like Guy Coffey, Buddy Wayne, Ken Wayne, Kevin Lawler, Downtown Bruno, Koko Ware, Bert Prentice and many more.

There were guys from the 1990?s and on, like Brian Christopher, Kevin White, Derrick King, Hollywood Jimmy Blaylock, Max Steele, etc. The thing I really liked was the inclusion of younger talent on the card as well. Young guys like Eric Wayne and Kid Nikels, also Cody Melton and Stan Lee. I?m surprised to say I really enjoyed Wayne and Nikels ring work and they have won me over.

One person that added a lot to the show was the announcer, Brandon Baxter. Brandon hasn?t been around Memphis Wrestling since the 1990s and Randy Hales? Power Pro days but his was a welcome return Thursday night. Brandon has been around the behind the scenes running of wrestling since he was 10 years old and has a natural love for the sport that comes through to the fans. While not the having the tenure of Lance Russell or Dave Brown, he does fit the bill and I for one am glad to see him at the helm.

Overall, if Jerry Lawler can keep this promotion going with the right combination of old-timers, veterans and new comers, I think it will be a success. Only time will tell, but the first night sure put a smile on my face.

Be sure to tune into Memphis Ch 50 on Saturday morning, June 5th @ 11am to watch the first episode of "Jerry Lawler?s Memphis Wrestling."
