JR's Blog: Mick Foley Has Written Another Hit...UFC PPV..Q&A's Updated..Striker/Solie Comparison..FREE SHIPPING still available!

Hope every one is having a great weekend. All is super in Norman, Oklahoma as our on line business is doing well plus our products in Norman's Homeland Grocery stores continues to selll. This feels like a great weekend to fire up the grill and watch some UFC. BTW our new, $19.88, 3 Pak of J.R.'s Original Sauce and the autographed 8X10 plus FREE SHIPPING AND HANDLING is starting to move but what's really moving are our products by the case which offers a great savings and we still provide FREE SHIPPING & HANDLING.

Got an advance copy of Mick Foley's newest book, release date TBD, entitled 'Countdown to Lockdown' and my friend Mick has penned another hit. I did not have the highest of expectations for this book considering what I perceived it to be about based on the title.

I was wrong.

Mick covers a variety of wrestling topics including his days as a WWE broadcaster including his honest and candid thoughts on the experience. Mick also shares more than one compelling conversation that he had with Vince McMahon during those days.

'Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy' is an amazingly gifted writer and is always brutally honest with his innermost feelings and opinions on a variety of topics. I have read this book twice this week and have no issues whatsoever in encouraging you to give it a shot when it is released. It will be around 300 pages and will be a paperback as I understand it.

Mick does this book in journal form which makes for a quick and fun read that I feel very confident that wrestling fans will enjoy.

I wish things had worked out for Mick at the announce table in WWE as I thought that we could have evolved into a great team had we the opportunity to work together longer. Nonetheless we certainly had our 'moments' on air and and our share of laughs.

However, with today's emphasis on 'look' over talent the two of us may have been bound for radio before all would have eventually been said and done.

Another UFC PPV tonight....looks like it will be purchased in the Ross household which should make my lovely wife happy. Machida vs. Rua is the main event in a rematch of a fight that many thought Rua won but the judges felt other wise. Two things, bad outcomes can occur when fights go to the judges cards and even though I hope that Rua gets his just due I think that Machida will be very motivated to dispel the last match controversy and win conclusively. This one is hard to call but that's what makes in ring products of all types interesting.

I'm also curious to see how much improvement that Kimbo Slice has made on his fundamental MMA skills.

My thoughts are still the same in that I feel the PPV marketplace is over saturated and that many MMA fans and pro wrestling fans are the same. I do understand that there is some mutual exclusivity without question but I have too many friends who like both genres and often times have to decide what PPV's to buy during a given month.

Read an interesting post on the UK Sun website a few hours ago about 'Pro Wrestling Eve' which is a women's, pro wrestling organization in the UK that emphasizes athleticism and actual wrestling more than elementary sex appeal even though the ladies aren't lacking in that area either. Great photo there of new WWE signee Jemma Palmer who has a great look but I've never seen her wrestle.

Why did I get a chuckle out of the Great Khali going to start a wrestling school in India similar to the one I got when I read that the Michael Jackson was quite the ladies man?

The Q&A's are updated as of Saturday afternoon....here's some post scripts....

No...I have never heard of Matt Striker be compared to Gordon Solie before but there is obviously a first time for every thing. Striker is a solid, still evolving young announcer but Solie was and likely will always be in another league. Plus, Gordon was a play by play guy from the old school while Striker is an analyst from the sound byte era.

Yes...I went with Walter Payton slightly over Barry Sanders as the NFL's top all time running back based largely on longevity. Nonetheless Sanders is the best running back I ever saw play in person.

No...a wrestling death was not my most emotional career moment...many of those types of matters have been suppressed in my mind, for better or for worse, and the winner is the ovation that I received in Chicago when my name was called to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. That ovation likely extended my on air career with WWE longer than many would imagine. I'll explain later.

No...I can't automatically say that a Rock vs. HBK match would have been the 'best match ever' but it would have had the potential to be pretty, damn amazing. Too bad it will never happen.

No....I don't think that Hulk Hogan is a 'traitor' to WWE and to Vince McMahon because Hogan is working in TNA. Yes, McMahon did a great deal for Hogan back in the day but that was a reciprocal deal as Hulk certainly carried his share of the water in that relationship as well. Hogan is simply earning a living and it's as simple as that to me.

Yes...I was shocked to hear that a rare 'J. R. sighting' actually made air on the three hour, WM26 DVD via my cameo at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. I know that one of the reasons that WWE is reluctant to utilize me on TV is my 'look' so I hope that this 'heads up' gives women and children ample warning when they watch the three disc set.

Yes...my favorite beer is COLD beer.
