ComPro Ends Run With A Bang

One month ago, Mike Two made the stunning announcement that ComPro was ending its weekly run in Tulsa on March 13. As the date approached, the crowds grew and grew as they knew a great thing was coming to an end. And a record crowd of 225 people crammed themselves into the arena that night to see the end of an era.

For slightly over 2 years, ComPro had run shows every Saturday night at Sheridan Avenue Christian Church. But the church was sold and no other venue had been found. So Mike Two put together a show that he knew would send everyone out feeling they had gotten their money's worth until the fed could reopen in a new location.

Many faces returned to see ComPro off, including Rage Logan, Damien Morte, Das Karnage, Sage and Draven Cross. Perhaps most astonishing was the return of The Greatest Bolo, who had not competed in a ComPro ring for almost 9 months. All these men and more competed in a 16-man Gauntlet Battle Royal to earn a guaranteed title shot at any contract in ComPro at any time. The first two men in this battle royal were Sam Stackhouse and Richie Adams and they were also the last two men to vie for the title. It appeared that Stackhouse had won the match when he threw Richie over the top, but the referees were busy with The Canadian Red Devil and Draven Cross, who had eliminated each other and were battling to the back. When the returned, Adams had snuck back into the match and threw Stackhouse over. The referees saw this and awarded the match and contract to Stevie Caballero's rising superstar. The duo then left the ring area, but it wouldn't be the last the fans saw of them.

Many personal issues were brought to a conclusion at this final Night of Champions. Dexter Hardaway and Rockwell concluded their longstanding issue with an outstanding match which Rockwell won after a series of reversals and counters between the two of them. Another personal issue was brand new and stemmed out of the betrayal of Justin Lee by Brandon Walker. Walker won their first confrontation and it would be wise to assume that their issue is not over with.

For the first time since the initial Night of Champions in 2007, all ComPro Titles changed hands. The Canadian Luchadore regained his ComPro Oklahoma X Division Title from Bobby Star in a No Holds Barred Match. The Luchadore released all his pent up rage and frustration against the champion, ultimately forcing him to tap out to the rear naked choke that he had used against his opponents in previous weeks, leading to several DQ losses. No such restrictions held him back this time and the Luchadore proudly stood as champion again after his match.

For the third time, Legion 13 took control of the ComPro Tag Team Titles, dethroning Excellence Personified. A mistiming with manager Mike Iles' shoe led to the champions loss, as Iles was on the receiving end of his own blunt instrument. After eliminating the manager, Dutch Hagen disposed of Se7en and then Jack Legacy so that he and Jesus Rodriguez could once again be champions.

Evan Newcastle has only been in the wrestling business for about 5 months, but already has his first title: the ComPro Showtime Title. Even the presence of TAP Champion Reckless, manager Boss Campbell and the injured Michael York wasn't enough to guarantee Ignition a victory, as the special referee for this contest was The Canadian Red Devil. Ignition knew that he was in trouble and tried to get himself intentionally DQed, but the Devil wouldn't allow that. At one point, the Devil was thrown out of the ring and run into the ringpost, knocking him out. Michael York rolled the Devil's prone body back into the ring and tried to slap the hand of the unconscious masked star to the mat 3 times, effectively counting a pin. But the Devil regained consciousness before the 3rd slap could happen and kept that injustice from taking place. A few minutes later, Newcastle hoisted Ignition up for a TKO and captured the first of what he hopes will be many championships in his career.

In the main event, Shane Morbid defended the ComPro Title against Michael Barry. It was a match that many will remember for a long time, as Barry opened up a huge wound in Morbid's head that would ultimately require 4 staples to close. Despite the presence of Excellence Personified at ringside and the use of a chair, Morbid still managed to pin the challenger and it appeared that everyone would go home happy with all the good guys holding the belts.

But then, after a hard-fought match and still bleeding gushers, Morbid was in no way prepared for the surprise appearance of Richie Adams, who brought Chance Snodgrass with him and gave Mike Two his contract. Adams hit a low-blow, then tied Morbid up in a schoolboy to win the ComPro Heavyweight Title. It was a stunning moment as Adams stood, arrogantly holding the belt high in the ring. But Mike Two promised that on May 14, ComPro would hold a special event at McKinley elementary. At that show, Morbid would receive his rematch. And he would be ready, rested and prepared to take back the title.

And so the era of weekly shows in Tulsa once again came to an end. This isn't the first time that fans have had to take a hiatus from weekly wrestling entertainment. Each time it's happened before, the fans have made their way back. Surely the same will happen again. But the fans will remain agitated and restless until they can once again see their favourite stars on Saturday night. Hopefully they won't have to wait too long.
