JR's Blog: Saturday Update...Homeland Grocery News...Dream Match of the Hour...Austin/Damage

Posted: Mar 13th 2010 By: CMBurnham

It's a beautiful day here in Norman with things sort of quiet with the students out of town on spring break and the OU Womens Hoops team on the road in Kansas City playing in the Big 12 Tournament. Let's get this show on the road....

I think that way too much as been made of a question that I answered regarding what my perception was about returning to weekly TV. Firstly, it's really nice that many fans enjoy my work and would like to hear me on a weekly basis. I'm sincerely flattered, without question.

Secondly, I do not perceive this development to likely not return to weekly TV broadcasting to be a negative one as a new schedule simply makes it easier on me travel wise and will hopefully help me keep lingering health issues in check. My goal is and has always been to help "the team" which means WWE as a whole. I've been fortunate to have had many years of positive experiences in several different, key areas where we have earned varying levels of success. I can still contribute in many of those areas or other platforms. Those plans are still being formulated but I am on board, in theory, and look forward to new responsibilities and challenges.

For the record, I am not "burned out" and I still have a blast broadcasting the genre. The business has been my life for over 35 years and I feel that I still have plenty to offer and want to do all I can to perpetuate the biz and to make things better for future generations. I am and always have been a team guy and the team always has to come first when dealing with one's profession so any way that I can help the team win is what I want to do.

I have every intention of being at WM26 and if that is to simply spend time with my wife and friends and enjoy the weekend as a fan then I'm perfectly fine with that. For a life long, wrestling aficionado to be able to enjoy an event of this magnitude highlighted by so many historically significant wrestling matches sounds like a great weekend to me.

However, and perhaps egocentrically, I will say that if called upon to broadcast a match or two I intend on kicking some commentating ass. I'm just saying.

My interview with Jeremy Botter at www.heavy.com regarding MMA has been well received in many circles or so I'm told. I've done the same type of interviews regarding football, another personal passion, but they seemingly never received the reaction tor created the speculation that this one has. This third and final part of the interview is up now.

We had a great meeting with Homeland Grocery Friday at JR's Family BBQ in Norman and the continued growth of our BBQ brand in their chain of stores looks extremely promising. Our BBQ products rose to the #1 sellers in their four, Norman stores last year but the "sleeper" product looks to be the Chipotle Ketchup. If things continue to evolve here, I will be doing a significant number of in store appearances for Homeland this summer as they have close to 100 stores in Oklahoma. This would be a huge win for us if it happens.

Really smart hire by WWE to bring Dennis Condrey on board to help train prospects in FCW. Condrey is an old schooler who throughly understands the psychology of being a great performer and was one of the most fundamentally sound wrestlers that I was ever around. I hope that the young people in Tampa realize just how lucky that they are that they have been given an opportunity to learn under Dennis, among others already in the system.

When asked by a emailer what "Dream Match" I would love to see at Wrestlemania if I could pick any two guys to compete, the answer is almost impossible to provide. Each day I might have a different idea or mindset. Today my idea is a young, healthy Andre the Giant as the WWE Champion versus The Undertaker at Wrestlemania in a Title vs. The Streak confrontation of epic proportions. I might have 10 other ideas in an hour as things like this are like getting a song in one's head and not being able to stop hearing it.

This I do know, on March 28 when we all look back upon the match between Undertaker and Shawn Michaels it will be one that will be remembered for our wrestling lifetime. I can't articulate how significant this match is to the business, WWE, and to me personally. I'm buying the PPV, DVR'ing it, and still hoping to be in Arizona to experience this moment, among others IE Bret Hart's last match (most likely), because "being there" helps better create an emotion that one can retain forever.

We've answered more of your questions and responded to many comments on our Q&A section as of Saturday morning.

If you place an order this weekend for products we will ship them on Monday via Federal Express Ground.

Lots of college basketball action today including another Bedlam Battle between OU and Oklahoma State women in Kansas City. Love March Madness with both the men and the women.

I had a good visit this morning with Steve Austin who is looking forward to being in San Diego this Monday for Raw. Steve is about to embark on an aggressive, media campaign to create awareness for his film "Damage" which is out on DVD on March 23. I'll probably see Steve mid week if things go as planned. Maybe he'll provide an old pal a copy of "Damage" so I can get a sneak peak.

Follow Steve on Twitter at steveaustinBSR. My Tweets come at JRsBBQ.

Thanks for stopping by and for all your support.
