Starchild Earns Shot At MWA Title In January

Starchild Earns Shot At MWA Title In January

Posted: Dec 9th 2009 By: CMBurnham

The newest superstar in MWA is "The Human Action Figure" Jeff Starchild and in his short time since returning to Oklahoma, he has made a serious impression on the fans and locker room. Not one to settle for second best, Starchild quickly made it known that he wanted to be the MWA Champion, a title currently held by Michael Barry.

Starchild has gone out of his way to show everyone that he is capable of taking the MWA Title. He justs needs the proper opportunity. And Barry, along with the rest of Excellence Personified, have gone out of their way to show that they want nothing to do with Starchild. Perhaps because they know that he's just one match away from championship gold.

Two months ago, Michael Barry, Lars Manderson & The Jet Setters came out to the ring and demanded that MWA Director of Operations Mike Iles come join them. Barry said that the previous month's loss to Starchild was like Haley's comet. It came once in a lifetime and there was no way he could do it again. Iles threw Barry's words in his own face, reminding him that he had said he could beat anyone. Barry quickly diverted the blame for the loss to Lars Manderson. Iles said it didn't matter because he was making Starchild the #1 contender to the title and he would get his shot that night. Barry retorted by saying that he knew the MWA bylaws and it was illegal to give a title shot to someone who had competed in a sanctioned match for the federation yet. Iles reluctantly agreed to this point, but Barry said that he was willing to give him a chance to prove himself. All he had to do was beat a member of EP. In this instance, that member would be Lars Manderson. During this match, Manderson & Barry got into an argument, which allowed Starchild to catch Manderson with a high cross body for the win. This brought in the Jet Setters and all of them held Starchild so that Barry could whip him with a belt. Mike Iles rushed down to ringside and demanded they stop, but Jack Legacy & Dustin Heritage refuse. This prompts Iles to fine EP $1000. That doesn't stop them either, as they take the check they received from Jake Boulder the previous month and throw it at Iles, then continue beating on Starchild, causing serious injuries which would have an effect on their match later that night.

When it came time for Barry to make his title defence, word arrived that Starchild was in no shape to compete. Barry refused to rebook the match and told Starchild to come on down and be "a man of his word". Starchild stumbled through the curtain, ribs taped up and obviously not at 100%. But he did enter the ring and after the referee consulted him, he started the match. It didn't take long for him to feel the effects of the Saturday Night Special and suffer his first MWA loss.

For one month, EP could gloat about their accomplishments. And the celebrations grew somewhat when Dustin Heritage went to IZW and became the Impact Division Champion for the 5th time the next night. But it was back to business this past Friday when all involved parties rolled back into Spavinaw. Starchild and Heritage were slated to face each other and the match didn't last too long as once again, all members of EP poured into the ring and began to pound on Starchild. This brought MWA Tag Team Champions The Old School Express out, as well as Mike Iles, as Barry was using a steel chair on the ribs of Starchild. Iles separated the two groups and said that, since it was obvious all of EP wanted to be part of the game, he would set the main event as a 6-man tag: Excellence Personified vs. The Old School Express & Jeff Starchild. He then sweetened the pot a little more by saying that whoever made the cover could challenge for whatever title they wanted at the next show in January. Barry was a little reluctant to agree to this idea, but Manderson took the mic and accepted for EP, much to the rest of the groups chagrin. All 4 of them went to the back to begin planning how to handle what Manderson had put them into.

Both teams showed clear confidence as they made their way to the ring for the main event, although the bravado and esteem on the part of EP might have been faked. To their credit, they worked on isolating members of the OSE/Starchild team, focusing first on Jason Jones and then cornering Jake Boulder. Eventually, things began to break down as Manderson grabbed a chair. He once again ended up in an argument with Michael Barry. This allowed Starchild to dropkick Barry into the chair held by Manderson, then hit a flying bodypress on the champion for the win. An ecstatic Starchild grabbed the MWA TItle belt and declared that he wanted a shot at that title and would take it in January.

Full of energy, enthusiasm and the desire only a wrestler who has never held a title can know, Jeff Starchild seems on a roll to become the next MWA Champion. But standing in his way is someone with more experience and ruthlessness than most of the competitors in MWA. And with the support of Excellence Personified, Starchild has some serious obstacles to overcome. He's certain he can do it, though, as he believes there will be nothing that can stop him from becoming the Star of the Show.
