"Mr. Endurance" Promises To Live Up To His Name

It seemed like TAP Oklahoma Heritage and MWA MAX-Division Champion Shane Morbid had run out of opportunities. After running through all the other competition in the company, ComPro Champion Draven Cross was met with the challenge of Morbid. September 5 marked the first opportunity that Morbid and Cross had to be in the ring opposite each other although it was in a 6-man tag team match. Morbid & his partners Team SuperBad were victorious over Stevie Caballero's assembled team of Cross and Texas, Inc.

One month later, Morbid received an official title shot against Cross, but left without the belt because Cross got DQed. It would be another month before Cross and Morbid were across the ring from each other and again, it appeared that fate was not going to be in the corner of Morbid. The only way he got this match was to agree that, if he lost, he would receive no future title shots as long as Cross was champion. Morbid knew he had to be aggressive in order to come out victorious in this match and he waste no efforts. But as it appeared that he was sizing Cross up for victory, Caballero grabbed his legs. Morbid turned around and grabbed Caballero, which drew the attention of the referee. While Caballero was being dealt with, Cross hit a low blow on Morbid, then applied the clawbomb for the win. Overwhelmingly ecstatic, Caballero took the mic and reminded Morbid that he had lost his last chance to win the ComPro title. But there was one more surprise for the manager and his behemoth champion.

ComPro owner Mike Two came to the ring as a huge "Rematch!" chant erupted from the fans. Mike said he is a man of his word and he won't give Morbid another title shot, but in two weeks, the annual Oklahoma Stampede will be held. The winner of the Stampede will be granted a title shot at any ComPro Title he wishes. Mike announced that Cross and Morbid were both officially entered in the match, with as many as 28 other stars to be participating.

The Oklahoma Stampede is a match where competitors come to the ring 1 at a time every 30 seconds and competed in an Over-the-top-rope Battle Royal environment until there is just one man remaining. Although skill, speed and ring awareness are key, one of the most important factors is the order of entry, which is generally randomly determined. However, two of the most important slots, first and last, were up for grabs this past Saturday. A fatal 4-way match was held where the man who won got to enter last, while the man who was pinned to achieve the win would be forced to enter first.

Shane Morbid was the first entrant in this match, followed by Tyson Jaymes, Mighty Mouse and new ComPro Oklahoma X Division Champion Goldeneye. Goldeneye soon found himself in a 3-on-1 disadvantage and ended up taking a lot of abuse from the other men. All the while, the crowd laughed at Goldeneye's disappointment and torture. Nonetheless, Goldeneye and Morbid were the last two men in the match. The end came when Morbid got into an arguement with Goldeneye's manager, Boss Campbell while the masked champion went after Sensei Bolo, who was sitting at ringside observing the match. Bolo hit Goldeneye with a kendo stick and Morbid pinned his final obstacle to having the last highly advantageous last entrant spot in the match.

And then, Morbid made what may have been the poorest choice in his career. He told Mike Two that he didn't want to enter last. He wanted to take out all his aggression on every entrant in the match, no matter how many they were, how big they were or how many there were. He formally asked that he be allowed to enter first in the match and promised to visualise every other entrant as Draven Cross.

In exchange for entering #1, Goldeneye was given the #30 spot. But the truth of matter is that Morbid may have let his rage and determination override his common sense. Entering last in this match means that he would have had to put forth the least amount of effort and spend the least amount of time in the ring. And while it is true that no one that has entered last in the Stampede has won the event, the odds of winning upon entering towards the end are much higher than the odds of entering early and winning. But Shane Morbid seems determined to live up to his nickname "Mr. Endurance" and go through everyone on the roster to show that there is no other competitor as qualified to be champion as he is. If he can do so, he'll have one more chance to take what he believes to be rightfully his. And this time, if he loses, there will be no more opportunites

The next three weeks could be the most critical in Shane Morbid's career.
