New MWA Director of Operations shows he means business

Posted: Nov 24th 2009 By: mikeiles

Being the Director of Operations for Maximum Wrestling Alliance is no walk in the park. Besides working with the current talent and looking for new talent to bring into the fold, it can be a thankless job. New DOO Mike Iles has brought the fans excitement and new talent.

Iles took over as DOO at the October show and immediately put his personal touch on the show. He removed The Jet Setters from the Tag Team Title Match and inserted The Old School Express. This was a popular decision with the fans, but not with then-champions Texas, Inc. OSE won the titles and there was fallout between Tim Rockwell and Bernard Funk. At the November show, Funk came out to announce his retirement and was attacked by Rockwell, effectively kicking him out of Texas, Inc.

The first match of the evening was scheduled to be MWA Heavyweight Champion "Mr. Saturday Night" Michael Barry defending the title against Jeff Starchild, who had been named #1 contender by Iles just 2 weeks before the show. Barry, who was flanked by all of Excellence Personified, said he would not be defending the title against Starchild and demanded Iles come to the ring. Barry reminded Iles that a wrestler cannot be named #1 contender if he has not wrestled an official match. Iles agreed and apologized to Starchild and the fans. But Barry said that if Starchild defeated his prot?g? Lars Manderson, he would get his title shot. All parties agreed and the match was on. Manderson obviously had the numbers but Starchild pulled out the victory. There was no time for celebration as all members of EP attacked Starchild. He was helped to the locker room by MWA referees. Iles came out and fined EP $1000 for the attack. Jack Legacy then revealed the $5000 that was paid to The Jet Setters in October to step aside in the Tag Team Title Match. Legacy said Iles could put the rest on EP's tab. This infuriated Iles who then said he was taking away The Jet Setters Tag Team Title Match scheduled for that night as well. He then brought out 2 new members to the MWA roster, and 2 friends of Iles, Brian Breaker & H. J. Jones.

The match featuring Breaker & Jones vs. Jet Setters proved to be exciting and fast paced. Both team used high impact moves. Breaker, a native of Sand Springs, press slammed Legacy, then followed that up by pressing Dustin Heritage as well then dropping him on his knees as a gut buster type move. The Jet Setters walked out on the match and lost by Countout.

Immediately after intermission, MWA Tag Team Champions The Old School Express were in the ring. They asked for Iles who came out and told them that because The Jet Setters were being punished for their attack on Jeff Starchild, OSE apparently had the night off. That is until the strains of "God Blessed Texas" filled the Spavinaw School Gymnasium. Tim Rockwell, along with his manager Big Stevie Caballero, came to the ring and said they were invoking their rematch clause. Iles reminded Rockwell that he attacked his partner earlier in the show. Rockwell corrected Iles saying that his partner quit on him, but now he had a new partner, The Longhorn Assassin. The Longhorn Assassin has made several appearances in MWA over the past year but had never wrestled an official match. Iles said if OSE was OK with it so was he. OSE agreed and the match was on.

OSE have been tagging together as a team for several years. Rockwell and TLA had not and that inexperience showed. Rockwell walked out on his partner allowing him to get pinned. He and Caballero did come back to the ring and assist him to the locker room.

The main event came up and Michael Barry awaited his opponent Jeff Starchild who staggered to the ring heavily bandaged due to the attack he received earlier by EP. It wasn't much of a match and Barry pinned him after a Saturday Night Special just mere seconds into the match. This brought out Iles yet again. He said that The Jet Setters had been punished and Barry wasn't innocent either. So Iles brought out another opponent for Barry. Iles said his friends Breaker & Jones brought with them a friend of their own. He was an international superstar and had recently been on ECW, "The Viet Nam Phenom" Bao Nguyen.

Although being outweighed and outsized by the MWA Heavyweight Champion, Nguyen used quick strike kicks and chops and high flying moves. He got several near pinfalls as well. After the ref had been knocked out, the entire roster of EP came out one by one to help their leader. Breaker & Jones came out to help their friend as well. As time was winding down, Nguyen had Barry down. The referee began the count and right after the 2 count, the bell rang signaling time had expired. The brawl between EP and Breaker/Jones/Nguyen continued until EP finally headed for higher ground.

In other matches:
Shane Morbid continued his dominance of the MAX-Division with a successful title defense against The Canadian Red Devil. Will anyone be able to take the belt away from "Mr. Endurance"?

The Russian Destroyer Boris Saarikoski totally annihilated El Matadors in a Handicap Match, choking slamming both masked brothers.

The next MWA show is Friday, December 4th with an 8pm bell time and admission is just $5. What will DOO Mike Iles have in store for everyone at the last MWA show of 2009? You won't want to miss it.

MWA...we are MAXIMUM entertainment!!!
