OSE fulfill their destiny

OSE fulfill their destiny

Posted: Oct 30th 2009 By: mikeiles

Ever since Maximum Wrestling Alliance introduced the Tag Team Titles, one feud has been dominant: Texas, Inc. vs. The Old School Express. OSE had their chances to wrest the title from the duo hailing from south of the Red River, but have come up empty. It looked as if they might never win the titles and due to stipulations, they weren't even supposed to get a title shot until December. But sometimes things just have a way of working out.

On July 11th, Texas, Inc. successfully defended the Tag Team Titles by defeating OSE in a Steel Cage Match. Due to that loss, OSE would not be getting another title shot for 90 days. On September 11th, then-Director of Operations Raymon Downey gave OSE one more glimmer of hope. Because The Jet Setters had won a title shot on July 11th, and OSE had defeated the Jet Setters at a Mid-States Wrestling event in Arkansas in early July, Downey said if OSE defeated the Jet Setters, they would win the title shot. But that glimmer was extinguished when the Jet Setters won the match.

So it appeared OSE would be relegated to singles matches until the moratorium on their title shots would be lifted. But like the saying goes, it is always darkest before the dawn.

The October 9th MWA show began like always, with ring announcer Mike Iles welcoming the fans, and Nathan Evans playing the national anthem. After the anthem, Iles summoned the entire roster to ringside for an announcement. He then asked OSE, the Jet Setters, and Texas, Inc. inside the ring. Well, he asked first, then demanded. Texas, Inc. seemed a little disturbed by Iles' tone in his voice. Iles began his announcement: Raymon Downey's contract as Director of Operations was only for one year and had expired. In addition, MWA and Downey could not reach an agreement on a new contract so he had stepped down. Iles then introduced the new DOO - HIMSELF! This brought cheers from the fans, and disgust from Texas, Inc. Iles then said that tonight OSE and Texas, Inc. would settle their feud once and for for all in an Old School Butt Whoopin' Match and there would be a winner. Iles made no bones about it, it would be the last shot for OSE...period. This did not sit well with the Jet Setters. Handsome Jack Legacy took the mic and said they were promised a tag team title match and Iles was abusing his power. Iles then said the Jet Setters would get the winner of the OSE-Texas match at the November 6th show, and to sweeten the offer, Iles gave the Jet Setters the $5000 that OSE's Jake Boulder had won the previous month by winning a Battle Royal. That was enough for the Jet Setters to step aside.

In the Old School Butt Whoopin' Match both teams pulled out all the stops. Tim Rockwell had demanded the stakes be even higher by saying if Texas won the match, OSE would have to leave MWA forever. The brawl went all around the Spavinaw gymnasium and into the parking lot. But destiny was finally fulfilled and OSE were the new MWA Tag Team Champions. After the match, there was arguing between Rockwell and Bernard Funk, each blaming the other for the loss.

OSE has been the hunter for quite some time, finally garnering their coveted prize. They now face the Jet Setters yet again. OSE and the Jet Setters have faced each other all over the country in various types of matches. They know each other all too well. In mid-September, the Jet Setters regained the Southern Tag Team Titles by defeating OSE at a Mid-States Wrestling event in Harrison, AR. This feud has been even thus far. Now with the Jet Setters joining forces with MWA Heavyweight Champion "Mr. Saturday Night" Michael Barry to form a faction called Excellence Personified, the Jet Setters have the numbers in their favor. Does OSE have what it takes for a long title reign?
