Bye Bye Brett! Fuel Defends Job Corps Honour
Posted: Sep 30th 2009 By: CMBurnham
There are few individuals more cocky, arrogant and generally distasteful as Brett Taylor. The charter member of the Popped Collar Posse has done as much as he can to be reviled in the arenas of Oklahoma wrestling. And it seems no matter where he goes, he has an issue with someone.
This past Saturday, Taylor's selfishness couldn't be confined as he was backstage watching as UWE presented their inaugural event. After a couple of matches, UWE ringside commentator Juston Talley brought out a representative of Job Corps who was carrying a large championship belt. After explaining to the crowd what Job Corps was and pointing some of her students out in the crowd, she announced that at next month's event, there would be an 8-man tournament to determine the first UWE Champion. Taylor chose that moment to introduce himself to the crowd and tell them that there didn't need to be a tournament because he deserved to have the title handed to him right there because he is 10-times better than any of the wrestlers in the state of Oklahoma.
The Job Corps representative was obviously insultedand fired back at Brett, saying that he had no right to come out and disrespect her centre or her students. She then reared back and slapped Brett hard across the face. This move almost proved to be a mistake, as Taylor grabbed her by her collar and prepared to punch her square in the face. Thankfully, Fuel ran through the curtain and jumped in the ring to pull the uncouth rulebreaker away from this act of physicality
Fuel grabbed the microphone and, after taking a couple of moments to completely insult all of Brett's wardrobe and fashion choices, said that he understood why Brett was the way he was. Fuel said Brett was just like Jon Cross and so many of the other wrestlers in the back. He was just there for the money. It was obvious to him that Brett hated the town of Tahlequah and all the people in it, so Fuel had an offer. He challenged Taylor to a match with a Loser Leaves Town stipulation. Taylor immediately seemed concerned and thought deeply for a moment before coming back with a stipulation of his own. If Brett had to put his ability to wrestle in Tahlequah on the line, Fuel had to put his career on the line. Fuel could immediately see the implications in this match and also gave it proper consideration, but after explaining what was at stake to the audience, he accepted as well.
So the match was set and right after intermission, both men proceded to the ring to compete in what would be the final Tahlequah event for one of them. Fuel had previously thanked the crowd and made it clear to them that, if this was to be his final show, he was thankful to do it in front of his home crowd. Brett Taylor said nothing, but was calm and seemed confident in the outcome.
The match was hard-hitting and both men took high risks. Taylor suplexed Fuel on the concrete floor at one point and there were no mats to protect him from the impact. Taylor also scored several near-pins, with Fuel escaping the end of his career by just nano-seconds. And Taylor felt more and more confident after each of those near-falls, as he knew he was wearing the hometown hero down.
That confidence soon turned to frustration as it seemed that no matter what he did, Brett Taylor couldn't do enough to keep his opponent down for a 3-count. And then, the final mistake. Taylor had Fuel down on his back in the middle of the ring and went outside to climb on the top rope. As Brett leapt off to connect with a Frog Splahs, Fuel got on his feet and connected with a superkick to the mid-section. This completely knocked the wind out of Taylor and allowed Fuel to pin his opponent to the mat and end the match.
It took a while for Taylor to realise that he was out of the city. But Fuel wasn't going to let confusion reign too long and helped lead the crowd in a rendition of "Naw Naw Naw Naw Hey Hey Hey Goodbye!" With no choice, Brett Taylor slowly retreated to the locker room and packed his bags to leave Tahlequah for the last time.
Taylor's opportunities in UWE were over and he obviously wouldn't be entered in the tournament to crown a UWE Champion. But don't think he's out of a title picture all-together. Taylor faces his fellow Popped Collar Posse members Michael York and ComPro Showtime Champion Cold Blooded Chris as well as the Canadian Red Devil at Night of Champions XVI for the Showtime Championship. With Taylor in charge of the faction (at least, when Boss Campbell is absent.), he seems to have a good chance of walking away with the belt. But that's just speculation at this point.
Oklafan has not received word about a date for the UWE Champonship tournament, but will post such information in the "Upcoming Events" section as soon as it's released.
