JR's Blog: JR's Mailbag...Fedor Feedback...Split a Case of Sauce w/ a Friend & Still Get FREE SHIPPING!
Posted: Aug 5th 2009 By: mikeiles
Thanks for stopping by and checking out our site. I hope that you take the time to visit our store and peruse the specials that are available. Sharing a case of sauce, yes you can mix and match with the Original BBQ Sauce, the Hot BBQ Sauce, and the Chipolte Ketchup, with friends or family is a great idea and you will still get FREE SHIPPING on your order in many parts of the USA. We also have several authentically signed pieces of merchandise signed that are available in our store including caps, J.R.'s Cookbooks and more. Nonetheless we appreciate that fact that you simply stopped by and paid us a visit.
I was at J.R.'s Family BBQ in Norman Saturday night from 5-9 pm and had a great time visiting with fans including several folks that were visiting from out of state or who were traveling on I-35 and saw our joint at exit 109. The restaurant has had a great week as folks love our food and our extraordinarily, family friendly prices. The vast majority of our entr?es are under 10 bucks.
Here's today's special....BBQ'ed Feedback from our mail bag.
We have updated the Q&A Section of the site as of Sunday afternoon. Check out what folks are asking and discussing.
Yes, I feel that HBK will be back in WWE action soon, as do most. Furthermore if Shawn's schedule is properly managed he can continue to contribute at a high level for several years to come, if he so chooses. My opinion is that in the upcoming years that a HBK at 75% is better than the vast majority of the men who earn a living in the wrestling biz today.
So some don't think JBL deserves consideration for the WWE HOF some day. I disagree but dissenting opinions are o.k. on this site.
Todd Pettingell memories....very talented guy....made great money working part time for WWE...was a good on camera talent...got burned out with pulling double duty with NYC radio station WPLJ/WWE and parted ways with WWE. I thought Todd was a funny guy but that he was never an over the top wrestling fan. That's not a sin either. Todd did help get Michael Cole hired to his first WWE contract, FYI.
My thoughts on the Steiners is that they were one of my favorite, all time tag teams and they were as dominate as any duo of their era. They had brotherly chemistry as a unit and always seem to be most comfortable as a tag team. I loved their toughness and athletic abilities plus they had "it" as a team back.
Why do announcers look at the TV monitors while broadcasting a show and is that the best way to do one's broadcasting job? Uh, yes. If announcers don't watch the monitors then they don't know what the fans are seeing at home and it really isn't a good idea to ignore the TV viewers and what they are seeing. Wrestling broadcasters in general over talk their TV shows and should allow the pictures to tell more of the story as TV wrestling isn't radio. Hearing announcers ramble on with endless run-on sentences about something totally different than what the viewer's are seeing on their TV screen can become extremely annoying. I will also admit that I have been guilty of this broadcasting transgression.
Another person wanted to know why I was reluctant to sign autographs during a TV broadcast especially during the commercial breaks. Wow. It's a little busy on the old headsets during a live or live to tape TV show. During the commercial breaks we often times are getting traffic info, not highway traffic, and other instructions. The time to do an abbreviated meet and greet isn't during a TV show. Sorry but if I had that much free time I would address Mother Nature's issues of sitting through a 2-3 hour show which doesn't happen either.
Why aren't there more protagonist/antagonist announce teams like there was with Monsoon/Ventura, JR/Heyman, etc? I don't have a profound answer on this subject but I have my assumptions. I think that organizations may feel like it is too "old school 'rasslin" and don't want to go there. It also could be the announce talent base that man many announce positions. It is an art form to be able to balance the good guy/bad guy chemistry in a broadcast booth and not make the show about the announcers but instead focus on the talent. I love the angst that can be created in the right broadcast setting but as long as the broadcasters remember that they are there to enhance the wrestlers' perception/stature/personas. I will admit that some of the most fun I ever had broadcasting was with partners who were perceived as villains such as the aforementioned and talented Heyman, whose persona was extremely easy to dislike, Jerry Lawler in the early to mid 90's whose sarcastic wit was usually spot on and whose timing with yours truly was damn near seamless, and Jim Cornette who had an amazing understanding of the business and knew his antagonist role amazingly well and was one of the very best broadcasters for the genre of pro wrestling that I ever worked with in my 30+ years.
No....it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY (Thanks, Gorilla) that J.R. will EVER guest host Raw. They are looking for main stream STARS and not 'rasslin announcers w/ Oklahoma accents to fill the role.
O.K. so Fedor isn't scared of Brock Lesnar but I made you look. Fedor's "people" will continue to catch the heat of Fedor not signing with UFC for "ridiculous money" as in BIG bucks but if Fedor wants to compete in UFC then he'll push to get the deal done and fight Lesnar for a reported $5M guarantee.
Two things here: Fedor's sponsor/entourage want UFC to facilitate the growth and exposure of their rival MMA company M-1 which is absolutely ludicrous and laughable from a business point of view. Secondly, look for Brock Lesnar to perhaps get a new deal now that all the Fedor $$$$ have been thrown around whether those numbers are accurate or not and my feeling is that they are probably embellished somewhat.
I think that UFC officials have already talked too much about a match, Brock vs. Fedor, that they haven't got in their pocket. Why build anticipation for a fight that one can't guarantee?
My thoughts for young wrestlers....talent development is an area that I loved being a part of at one time in my career and I am proud of the track record we had in helping launch or re-launch some distinguished careers in WCW and WWE. In a nutshell, young talents must be amplified versions of THEMSELVES and not portray what they PERCEIVE a pro wrestler to be. Bad acting is generally an automatic kiss 'o death. Study the classic stars throughly and discover what made those men standout. When doing this, one will usually discover that the greats of the past were simply being enhanced versions of themselves. They also understood their audience throughly and were able to engage the audience with the required "emotional investment."
We're working on a suitable shipping solution for our friends in Canada. Stay tuned.
Two major grocery store chains in Oklahoma, Reasor's and Homeland, are considering stocking our two, BBQ sauces and our Chipolte Ketchup. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
I wold love to be in Charlotte next weekend to enjoy the NWA Legends Convention. Perhaps some day my schedule will allow me to make more appearances such as this one. Can you believe that in over 30 years that I have made only a small handful of appearance for non WCW/WWE events?
If you haven't joined the Cauliflower Alley Club as of yet I merely ask this, what you are waiting for? Check our their website for more info. This is a wonderful, non profit organization that does many good deeds. If you are a true fan of wrestling then you wouldn't think twice about joining. I am a Life Time Member of CAC I am proud to say.
No, I don't dislike Big Show's new look. So he might look like the World's Largest "Amish" Man but so what? Seriously, I really like Jericho and Show together and look forward to seeing their weekly escapades. I assume that this team will continue to make appearances on both Raw and Smackdown.
We've received a great deal of positive feedback on the Jeff Hardy vs. John Morrison bout on this past Friday Night Smackdown. Actually, Morrison had the best week of any one in a WWE ring, in my humble opinion, as Morrison's bout vs. Tyson Kidd on WWE Superstars on WGN American Thursday night was stout as well. I'm anxious to see how these talents are followed up with this week as many in the biz always believed in striking while the iron was hot.
Same thing goes for Dolph Ziggler and to a lesser degree Mike "Fort" Knox. Both have marketable upsides and Ziggler, in particular, has started to separate from the pack. I have high hopes for both talents and am curious to see how they contribute to their own cause in the coming days. It does take two to Tango for the record and wrestles who sit around and bitch and moan about their current status can do positive things about their perceived situations.
Consistent and all out effort, natural skills, and the ability to connect with the audience can't be ignored in today's marketplace with such a lack of experienced, main eventers.
Thanks, again, for stopping by and visiting our site. I'm looking forward to taping SD from the Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday night to what looks as if it will be a large and hopefully boisterous crowd on Long Island.
