Showtime At The Compound!

Showtime At The Compound!

Posted: May 19th 2009 By: CMBurnham

Since taking over the reigns of ComPro, owner Mike Two has done whatever he can in order to establish control and give the fans what he believes to be the best show in Northeast Oklahoma. He also has demanded that his champions be upstanding and represent the best that Compound Pro Wrestling has to offer.

In the existance of ComPro, there have only been 3 titles: The Heavyweight Title, which was created in August of 2006 prior to the first ComPro event; the Tag Team Titles, which were created in December of 2006 and the Oklahoma X Division Title, which was crowned at the first ComPro event at the original Compound arena. Mike Two has been pleased to have these titles, but he wanted something extra. And when he opened the show this past Saturday, he proudly displayed the belt that would represent the ComPro Showtime Title. The biggest stipulation for this belt would be that it will be defended EVERY WEEK, unlike normal wrestling titles which only have to be defended every thirty days.

In addition to the creation of the tournament itself, Mike Two announced that there would be a 16-man tournament to crown the first champion and that tournament would start that night. 6 matches were held and 6 wrestlers advanced to the quarter-finals as a result of their wins.

The first match saw TAP & MWA Tag Team Champion Tim Rockwell walk away from the match against Shane Morbid. Rockwell seems to be concentrating on tag team gold these days and was not interested in being bogged down with a singles title he would have to defend every week.

Match #2 saw the in-ring return of Dutch Hagen as he took out the Canadian Luchadore. Hagen proudly displayed his new mask and conquered his more experienced opponent to continue on.

In match #3, Ignition defeated current AWFUL Champion Kevin Morgan. Ignition worked with with his twin brother Reckless, plus their manager, the Shadow of Death, to switch out while the referee was distracted and concentrated on the left knee, ultimately rendering it impossible for the big man to use his height and size advantage. Ignition moved on to the next round.

Match #4 saw Das Karnage eliminate Trey Christian. Neither of these men had been highly successful in their stints in ComPro, but Christian suffered a severe wardrobe malfunction, as his pants split right down the middle, causing embarrasment and distraction and allowing Karnage to roll him up for the win.

In match #5, the hotly contested feud between Tyson Armstrong and Cold Blooded Chris took another step. Despite the presence of Boss Campbell and ComPro Tag Team Champion Michael York, Tyson still took out the behemoth member of the Popped Collar Posse. Armstrong might be looking too far ahead though, as he challenged ComPro Champion Draven Cross after his match.

The final 1st round match held that night saw Jesus Rodriguez def. Kobra Kai. It was Kai's 10th straight loss this year, but more interestingly, it puts both members of Legion 13 in the quarter finals and presents a minor dilemma for manager Ray Martinez.

Two more first round matches will be held this Saturday, but participants have not been announced. Front runners include TAP Champion The Canadian Red Devil, El Super Colibri, Reckless and TAP Pure Xtreme Champion Brandon Groom. After the last two matches have been announced, brackets will be made and the matches will continue until the champion is crowned at the next Night of Champions.
