Prime-time Roundup
Posted: Jul 1st 2006 By: CMBurnham
Welcome to the first edition of the Prime-Time Round-up. Given that many of the wrestlers that have a connection to Oklahoma are still active on TV, I thought this would be a great place to give a summary of their most recent activities. Also, this can be useful if you missed an episode and wanted to track events of your favourite former Oklahoma star. So let's get to it:
6-26: WWE RAW
Umaga demolished Kamala and his handler, Kim Chee.
Charlie Haas came out during a tag team match between Val Venis & Viscera and Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch. He seemed preoccupied with Lillian Garcia, going so far as to attempt to give her a massage. After Viscera gave Cade a splash in the corner, Haas yelled at him, saying "That was good, but this is better!". He then kissed Lillian, upsetting Viscera and allowing Murdoch to cradle him for the win.
Ric Flair did a video promo. He said that Mick Foley proved everything in Flair's book during their match last night. Foley is, in Flair's opinion, a glorified stuntman. He took the easy way out. It's easier to use a barbed wire baseball bat than to wrestle. Flair has 18 stitches in his head and a concussion, but it won't keep him down for long. He says Foley is not a badass. and the next time they meet, Foley will be Flair's all night long
6-29 NWA-TNA Impact
Sting has an in-ring confrontation with Christian Cage. He says that Cage is cracking under the pressure and second guessing himself. Sting says there's a bigger problem with Jeff Jarrett. He says that he talked to Jim Cornette about setting up a tag team match: Sting and Christian Cage vs. Jeff Jarrett & Scott Steiner.
Backstage, Jarrett says he believes that Jim Cornette has no choice but to name him the NWA World Champion.
A video is shown of Shane Douglas training The Naturals.
Jim Cornette comes out to the ring and has a lot of business to take care of. He informs LAX, who have been on a "work stoppage" for a few months, that a "works stoppage" means a "check stoppage". They must return to their assigned duties. He then disbands Team Canada, saying they are all on individual contracts. For the upcoming Victory Road Pay-Per-View, he announces that the NWA World Tag Team Titles will be on the line in a 6-person tag team match: America's Most Wanted & Gail Kim vs. Christopher Daniels, A. J. Styles & their mystery woman partner. He then calls Earl Hepner, Larry Zybyszko & Jeff Jarrett to the ring. Scott Steiner comes out with Jarrett. Cornette fires Hepner, based on his actions at the Slammiversary PPV. He announces that he can't fire Zybyszko without paying him lots of money, but Zybyszko's contract does allow him to be booked in wrestling matches. So Cornette announces that at Victory Road, there will be a match between Zybyszko & Raven: Hair vs. Hair. Cornette then addresses the NWA World Title situation. He says that no matter what he does here, he's going to make someone upset. He hates giving people titles that didn't earn them in the ring and has come up with this compromise. There will be a match at Vicory Road; Fatal 4-Way to become the #1 contender to the NWA World Title. Sting vs. Christian Cage vs. Scott Steiner vs. Samoa Joe. If Jeff Jarrett accepts the title, he must agree to defend it against the winner of that match in August. Jarret agrees. He says he doesn't have to deal with Cornette, but Cornette has to deal with him. Jarrett then calls Sting and Cage to the ring, where there is a 4-way brawl that ends the show.
6-30 WWE Smackdown
Ken Kennedy defeated Gunner Scott. After the match, The Great Kahli came down to the ring with his manager, Khosrow Davari. Kahli ordered Davari to put Scott in a body bag. They then issued a challenge to the Undertaker to a Punjab Prison Match at the Great American Bash PPV.
