R.I.P. "Playboy" Buddy Rose
Posted: May 5th 2009 By: mikeiles
Having recently heard about the passing of one of the greats, ?Playboy? Buddy Rose, I wanted to take the time to offer my condolences to not only his friends and family, but his fans, as well. All of us here in the Maximum Wrestling Alliance were saddened to hear about the passing of the former AWA tag-team champion.
I still watch Buddy Rose on the AWA re-runs on ESPN classic. For a man of his size, he was an excellent professional wrestler. Billed at 271?I mean, 217 pounds, he could really move in the ring. I recently got to see the match, in which, he and ?Pretty Boy? Doug Somers won the AWA tag team titles from the late-great Curt Henning and ?Big? Scott Hall. He and Somers, along with late manager, ?Sensational? Sherri Martel, were among one of the better trios within the AWA and the industry as a whole.
Although Col. DeBeers may have played a role in the winning of the tag-team championships, Rose was definitely deserving of that, and many other titles. Reading Percy Pringles thoughts on Rose?s passing, one can truly get a small glimpse into the huge impact he had on the wrestling business. I vaguely remember his stint in the WWE, but from what I?ve read about it, I?m glad.
On behalf of all of us hear at the Maximum Wrestling Alliance, our condolences go out to all of Buddy Rose?s family, friends, and fans. Rest in peace, Playboy.
Sincerely,
Claude ?Bud? Guffey II
