Tornado Of Action Provokes 8-Man Tag Team Match For March

Tornado Of Action Provokes 8-Man Tag Team Match For March

Posted: Feb 25th 2009 By: CMBurnham

It seems like by the time people left, complete chaos had ensued in Muskogee at the latest TAP event.

Much of that chaos surrounded Jake McCoy. The ComPro Oklahoma X Division Champion lost a quick match against Bernard Funk. Part of the reason for that loss may be a minor ankle injury that he was suffering from, but nonetheless, he wasn't happy about the situation. When Michael York attempted to come to his rescue after the match, in which he was being beaten by the combined forces of Texas, Inc., McCoy was less than appreciative, which confused the fans and York himself.

More insanity followed during the TAP Oklahoma Heritage Title match between Tim Rockwell and #1 contender Jon Cross. Cross had defeated 3 other men (including Rockwell's uncle, Bernard Funk) to earn the title shot and he wasn't going to let that go to waste. Rockwell knew the situation was desperate, so he had formed an alliance with Shane Morbid. With both those men at ringside, it looked bleak for the challenger until the arrival of the TAP Tag Team Champion, The Innovators. Anarchy 2nd & Fuel battled Morbid & Funk while Cross disposed of Rockwell in the ring to become the new champion. This victory made the Innovators the longest reigning current champion in Oklahoma. But it also earned them the attention of 3 men who wanted revenge.

Much of this cleared up in the very next match when The Innovators put their belts on the line against Muskogee's Own, Michael York & Brandon Groom. York & Groom were undefeated in the state walking into the match, but the champions certainly had the team experience. A clear winner was never determined as Shane Morbid hit the ring and Texas, Inc waited in ambush near the ring entrance, bringing the match to a No-Contest ruling by referee Running Wolf. Then, while the chaos ensued in the ring, Jake McCoy arrived with a chair in hand. It looked like he was there to bring some order, but instead he kicked York in the stoumach, then delivered a thunderous DDT on the chair to "The Enigmatic One". This brought Jon Cross out to the defence of the people who had watched his back and very quickly the sides were drawn: The Innovators and Muskogee's Own in the ring, Texas, Inc. and the Bloated Floaters outside the ring.

Tim Rockwell took the opportunity to grab the mic and issue the challenge for an 8-man tag team match at the next show between these two sides. Anarchy 2nd accepted, saying there were 3 things that would always be true and the last of these was that "Texas sucks!" At that point, all 8 men cleared out with thoughts of their impending war on March 20 heavy on their mind.

Texas, Inc. ended up facing Jake McCoy in a Triple Threat tag team match the next night. McCoy was with his Good Ol' Boys partner Bud Barnes. The New Varsity Club, who obviously could not get along and with good reason, were the 3rd team in the match. McCoy's ankle was still hurting and he participated very little in the match, leaving his partner to handle much of the work. As the only team on the same page, Funk & Rockwell, with their manager Stevie Caballero, began their return to the top of the tag team picture by claiming a victory in this match.

A "Captain's Match" of sorts for this 8-man tag team match will occur this Saturday as McCoy defends his X Division Title against #1 contender Brandon Groom.
