Heritage & Legacy win Southern Tag Team Titles
Posted: Dec 18th 2008 By: mikeiles
Just one night after winning the Southern Tag Titles from The Gentlemen Thugs (Cast-Iron Cothern & Shane Morbid) in a Handicap Match, the title reign of The Old School Express (Jason Jones & Jake Boulder) came to a screeching halt by The Jet Setters, Darling Dustin Heritage & Handsome Jack Legacy.
On October 4th in Harrison, Arkansas, The Jet Setters came together as a team in Mid-States Wrestling, the affiliate federation of MWA. Although they had not teamed together at that point, they challenged Southern Tag Team Champions The Old School Express to a title match. The Express accepted and the match was set for December 13th in Harrison.
The Express lost the titles to The Gentlemen Thugs in an Old School Butt Whoopin' Match in Spavinaw on November 7th which threw a monkey wrench in The Jet Setters plans. But Mid-States Wrestling's championship committee stepped up and made changes. The Jet Setters would still get their title match, but now it was against The Gentlemen Thugs. In addition, it was ruled that because it took a 3rd person to wrest the titles from The Old School Express, it would be a Triple Threat Elimination Match that included The Old School Express, and the match also had the stipulation that falls could count anywhere in the state of Arkansas.
Heritage & Legacy had never tagged in MWA. In fact, this past Friday in Spavinaw was the first time it was acknowledged that they were in cahoots. On Friday, Legacy defeated Canadian Red Devil and Heritage lost to the debuting Justin Lee. But they had bigger things on the horizon. Also on Friday, The Old School Express defeated Shane Morbid in an impromptu Handicap Match to regain the Southern Tag Titles. Cast-Iron Cothern had deserted Morbid and never entered the match.
With The Old School Express champions again, it looked as if the originally scheduled match would take place. The Mid-States Wrestling championship committee stepped up and said that the Triple Threat Elimination/Falls Count Anywhere Match was still in place. However due to the break-up of The Gentlemen Thugs, the third team in the mix would be the popular El Matadors, Uno & Dos.
The match was officiated by MWA referees Jeremy Evans and Clinton Starks and began with all 3 teams in the ring. The Matadors were eliminated in the first 2 minutes of the match. The 2 remaining teams duked it out with the gold on the line. At one point, Legacy and Boulder battled through the entryway to the locker room. While they battled out of the crowd's sight, Jones set Heritage up on a table and then leaped off the ring apron. Heritage moved and Jones came crashing through the table to the floor. About that same time, Legacy and Boulder came brawling through the front door. After much bloodshed and near pinfalls, Jones hit Heritage with a Bulldog. He then turned around into Legacy's Hot Carl. Legacy was then hit with Boulder's Missile Dropkick. Heritage then Superkicked Boulder and The Jet Setters were your new Southern Tag Team Champions.
After the match, Legacy was quoted as saying "We took the gold! Now we jet set off to break some hearts, break some homes, and break some bones, daddy!" The Old School Express could not be reached for comment. The title win marks the first tag team title The Jet Setters have won as a team. It is also the first tag team title for Heritage in his career. Legacy won the California based Supreme Pro Wrestling Tag Team Titles in 2003 and the Texas based Professional Championship Wrestling Tag Team Titles twice in 2005.
On January 9th in Spavinaw, both The Old School Express and the Southern Tag Team Champions The Jet Setters are scheduled to be in the building. No word as to who each team will be facing, or even if they are in tag team matches or singles matches.
