13 Could Be ComPro's Unlucky Number

Posted: Nov 21st 2008 By: CMBurnham

Seems like just a few weeks ago, ComPro fans were preparing to say good-bye to Ray Martinez. But like a phoenix, he rose from the ashes of La M and put together another tag team to wreak havoc in ComPro, that of Legion 13.

Martinez maintained his association with Jesus Rodriguez and put him together with new associate Dutch Hagen. Together, this pair had gone to great efforts to make life miserable for ComPro Champion Pork Chop. But even with a 3-on-1 number advantage, they were unable to bring the ComPro championship back to Ray's greasy hands.

Now that Hagen has been taken off of the injured reserve list, Ray put aside his desire to grab the Heavyweight gold and went back to the first success he had in the company; tag team competition. He unleashed the now-named Legion 13 on the pairing of The Canadian Red Devil and Pork Chop in the opening match last Saturday. Pork Chop & the Devil are not regular tag team partners but functioned very well together against the antics of Ray Martinez's duo. Martinez did not want to be humiliated in his first official tag team outing with his new pairing, so he went back to what he knew best: cheating. Towards the end of the match, he stole the ComPro Title belt and ran off with it, causing Pork Chop to get upset and leave the ringside area. The Devil was exhausted and unable to overcome the 2-on-1 tactics of his opponents and Legion 13 chalked up a win in their first match.

Bolstered by their win, Martinez was quick to seize on another opportunity when he saw the potential dissention in the ring between Boss Campbell and ComPro Tag Team Champion Shane Morbid. He followed ComPro owner Mike Two out to the ring and reminded Mike that Legion 13 were undefeated (ignoring the FACT that they had only had one match together) and deserved a tag team title shot. Before Mike could respond, Sensei Bolo brought the Amazing Bolo out. He ran down the accolades of his Bolos and also demanded a tag team title match. Mike said that the Amazing Bolo would have to do something to impress him in order to earn a match and set up a 1-on-1 match with Morbid. But before that match commenced, Mike addressed Martinez again. He said that, in his mind, Team SuperBad were the number one contenders to the tag team titles, so if Legion 13 wanted a tag title shot, they'd have to beat El Super Colibri & ComPro Oklahoma X Division Champion Justin Lee and made that match for the semi-main event. At first Ray seemed ready to protest this decision, but an impromptu consultation with Sensei Bolo seemed to calm Martinez down and he took his men to the back to prepare.

When it came time for the match, Legion 13 were determined not to waste it. They came to the ring prepared and met Team SuperBad who brought their "A" game as well, including a double "Old School" rope walk spot. it seemed like Lee & Colibri were on their way to retaining the #1 contendership despite frequent interference from their opponents. But once again, desperation led to an upset as Jesus Rodriguez faked a knee injury to keep the attention of referee John the Encourager. This allowed Marintez to focus his attention on Colibri, but Colibri avoided Martinez's blows and positioned him for the 918, which he hit hard to the crowd's delight. This put Martinez in position for Justin to hit a moonsault, but as he was on the top rope, The Greatest Bolo & Sensei Bolo came out and Greatest Bolo hit Lee with a kendo stick, knocking him from the top. They then entered the ring and wrapped a chain around Justin's neck, dragging him from the ring to the back. Once again, Legion 13 had the numbers advantage over their opponents and, after a "miraculous" recovery by Jesus, they hit a devestating double team move on Colibri and pinned him, taking the #1 contendership with them.

Legion 13 seems to be on the verge of becoming the fastest rising tag team to gain the tag team titles. Mike Two demanded that, whether or not ComPro Tag Team and TAP Champion Cast-Iron Cothern showed up at the ComPro show on November 22, the tag team titles would be defended. As a united team, the Gentlemen Thugs have proven hard to beat. But unity is not the main word to describe them at this point. Legion 13, ever the opportunists, seem poised to exploit this weakness. And if that occurs, Martinez will have proven all his critics wrong by once again claiming a foothold of power in the company he once owned.
