918 Boyz win titles, lose belts

SRPW crowned new Tag Team Champions for the first time on almost a year and a half. At the beginning of 2004, then-champions Ian St. James & Rengade were stripped of the titles, due to a falling out between the duo resulting in the titles not being defended in the 30-day limit. The belts were then virtually ignored, despite repeated inquires from fans as to when they would be filled. Finally, this spring, SRPW announced it would hold a tournament to crown new tag team champions. 8 teams were entered into the single-elimination event, held over several weeks, but on May 6, it came down to 2 teams: The 918 Boyz (Cade Sydal & Timmy J) and the New Texas Outlaw combination of Bernard Funk & Rengade. Despite a lack of experience when compared to the Outlaws and the repeated interference of Bobby Burns, the 918 Boyz took advantage of a mistake when Renegade hit Funk with his boot, resulting in the pinfall. After the match, Timmy & Cade took the duffel bag where the belts were being stored and prepared to unveil them for the fans to see. But when one of the belts was lifted out, it turned out to be Bernard?s Texas Title belt. The Outlaws then ran out of the ring with another bag, claiming it held the actual tag team title belts. They exited the arena, followed closely by several members of the SRPW staff, including Commissioner Eric Roberts, and the 918 Boyz themselves. The Outlaws got in a waiting truck and sped off with the belts.
When reached for comment on this situation, Cade Sydal had the following to say: "Ya know, hearing that reaction when we got the win was second to none. They might have stolen our belts, but they can never take our titles from us. We?ll be taking matters into our own hands soon, and we?ll get our belts back."
There is no word yet on any action that Eric Roberts might take on the Outlaws for this theft.
