Shady Insists that Charles Not Forget He's Still Around

Slam Shady's association with Charming Charles is only now beginning to pay off the dividends. And that's after the pair has parted ways. Both men are focused on the NWA-OK title, but each has their own plans on how to go about gaining (or keeping) control of it.

When Brent Albright chose to vacate the title, due to his overwhelming schedule as NWA World Champion, NWA-OK management looked at the current roster to find 2 men who could be considered the top 2 contenders to the belt. The top choices were Slam Shady, a former NWA-OK Oklahoma Champion, and Spoiler 2000, a man who hadn't been seen since NWA-OK reopened, but whose credentials spoke for themselves. He was a former NWA-U Television Champion and the only man to hold that title before it was discontinued.

Spoiler 2000 and Shady might not be strangers to each other in Texas, but this meeting on October 3 was their first in Oklahoma. With the NWA-OK Oklahoma Title at stake, both men knew they could afford no mistakes. And the match opened the card in Tulsa, so neither man had much time to prepare and scout at the show. Instead, they had to rely on their previous associations. Spoiler used his speed and the constant presence of his new manager, Charming Charles, at ringside while Shady relied on his strength and the encouragement of the fans. But it was the aforementioned Charles who proved the difference as he handed Spoiler 2000 a foreign object, allowing the masked competitor to knock out Shady and score the win for the title. Spoiler and his manager were gleefully thrilled about their accomplishment, but their weekeend had only just begun.

The next night, in Tahlequah, Charles walked in confident in his ability to retain total domination of the titles in NWA-OK. His first matter of business was to help High Society retain the NWA-OK Oklahoma Tag Team Titles against Scott Murdoch and MSWA Mid-South Tag Team and TCB Champion Michael Faith. Charles seemed to have orchestrated something behind the scenes as Murdoch never made it to the show. Thomas Trump & Al Farat were very amused and seemed to take some credit for this, although they never actually came out and said that. Charles then suggested that Faith go get some nachos or something. If he didn't want to do that, he could still wrestle the match, but it would be a handicap match. To sweeten the pot, Charles said that if Faith won, he would get a title shot at the next show. Faith said he would take the match and that next month, he would take the titles with his partner...although he didn't mention who his partner was going to be.

The champions started off with little effectiveness as no matter what they hit "The Largeador" with, it seemed to have no effect. Evntually, though, the champions found the weak spot in the behemoth: the knee. And they worked over the knee for quite some time, resulting in Faith not only having a problem walking, but even just standing. But Faith was no stranger to adversity and fought his way through the pain and the number deficiency. Towards the end of the match, NWA-OK owner Christopher Fox came to ringside and escorted Charles to the back in what seemed to be an emergency situation. This allowed Slam Shady to come out and even up the odds (unoffcially) in the match. Slam neutralised Farat outside the ring while Faith took care of Trump inside the ring, hitting an amazing Spingboard Moonsault and scoring the pin just as Charles returned to see the result. And he carried with him a piece of paper that simply said, "You got screwed." Charles was embarassed and irate and directed his tag team champions to attack Faith, resulting in his need to have assistance to the back. Charles said that Slam's days were numbered.

And that number almost came up in the main event, which was a rematch for the NWA-OK Oklahoma Title between the two men. Spoiler knew exactly how lucky he had been before and decided to leave nothing to chance. He used everything in and around the ring, including the ringside table (smashing Shady's head into it). But much like the previous match, it was to no avail as Shady keep fighting back and fighting back. Then, the unthinkable! Charles lured the referee over to the side of the ring and threw a chain into the ring, but Shady grabbed it instead. As Shady was about to hit S2K, the referee started to turn around. Seeing no other way to deal with the situation, S2K fell down on the mat and started to complain to the referee that Shady had used the chain (which was wrapped around his hand). Even though the referee didn't see the use, the evidence seemed to be right there. Thus Slam Shady was DQed and the title didn't change hands. Shady demanded 5 more minutes and it looked for a moment like Spoiler was going to give it to him. But that wasn't to be, as Spoiler powdered before any contact could be made.

Spoiler must defend his title every 30 days and given that NWA-OK is only running once a month, he might think about needing to find some competiton for those future title defences. It seems like Slam Shady would still be a top contender and perhaps Michael Faith could fit in there as well. But questions persist from October 4: Did Shady write the "note" to Chaming Charles? And if it wasn't him, who else could it be? Will Scott Murdoch be able to make it to the next show (barring interference from High Society) and if not, might Faith be better served by relying on a previous partner such as MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champion Halo. Charles' stranglehold on the titles will require cunning, deception and a certain amount of ingenuity to wrest them from his grip. Anything less than the best will not be considered effetive.
