Mike Two Stands Up For Himself And The Fans
Posted: Aug 19th 2008 By: CMBurnham
He's regarded as on of the most stand-up guys in Oklahoma wrestling. And now ComPro senior referee Mike Two has stood up and made a simple request: a promotion.
In most businesses, facing your boss and asking for a raise of a promotion is one of the scariest things to do. But with a boss like ComPro owner Ray Martinez, it's even more frightening, as Martinez has made it clear that all he cares about is himself and protecting the ComPro Title held by Jesus Rodriguez. For someone like Mike Two, who has established a reputation of decency and honesty, being forced to watch Ray continually abuse his authourity has become too much. And so he had to take a stand.
Two weeks ago, Mike calmly took the microphone and announced, in front of everyone, that he didn't like the way things in ComPro had been going since Ray took over. He politely asked for a chance to change things and a promotion. Ray exhibited a rare quality as well, as he listened to Mike's request and told him that he would think about it.
This past Saturday, Mike stepped up again and asked Ray if he had considered the request. Ray said that, with the success of Night of Champions IX and the forced retirement of the Mexican Combo Platter, it had slipped his mind, but he would try to find time this coming week to give it some consideration. On the surface, this sounded fine, but Mike knew that if he gave Ray the chance to blow off this request, he'd never get anywhere. So, following the next match, Mike demanded an answer from Ray. Ray said he knew the fans were supportive of Mike and wanted to see him get the promotion, so he had an idea: if Mike could put together a match for after intermission, Ray would base his decision on the fans' reaction. If the fans liked the match, Mike would get the promotion. If the fans weren't happy, Ray wouldn't be happy and Mike would never see a higher position.
With the pressure on, Mike spent the intermission backstage looking for talent that didn't have a match. And when intermission was over, Mike stepped forward and announced his match. In one corner, ComPro fans would see the return of Pork Chop, who hadn't been seen since he was blamed for La M losing the ComPro Tag Team Titles and fired by Ray. In the opposing corner, Pork Chop's former La M partner, Jesus Rodriguez!! Ray was irate and Jesus was caught off guard. He'd expected another easy week of sitting at ringside and eating snacks, but now found himself against his angry ex-partner. And Pork Chop made the most of this return, laying in with devestating chops, slams and using all the power at his disposal. Only interference from Ray stopped the match and led to a DQ victory by Pork Chop. And then came the decision.
Ray declared that the fans hated the match and that Mike should not get the promotion, but the vocal response of the fans was completely the opposite. They loved what Mike Two had delivered and they wanted more, especially if more would lead to less power for Ray. Faced with a hostile crowd and a potential riot, Ray saw no choice but to acquiese and give Mike Two the promotion. His announcement was met with cheers of joy from the fans and sources report to Oklafan that many members of the roster were equally thrilled as well.
The question now stands: exactly what are Mike's new duties? He's already senior referee, so he can't be promoted any further in that area. Matchmaker is a step up, but wouldn't that be a conflict of interest for Mike as a referee? And if that's where Mike is going, can he continue to deliver like he did this time or will his success be a one-time thing? Only time will tell. But Mike has proven that Ray can be backed down and perhaps he's taken the first step towards returning ComPro to the hands of the most important people in wrestling: the fans.
