ComPro and Edison Join Forces Against Loudmouth Detractors

When Edison Prepatory School wanted to raise funds for their new wrestling club, they looked no further than ComPro. Edison Middle School Boys gym coach Brian Worell aka Brian Lakewood made the arrangements and signed on fellow coach Wade Weller. And, in a surprise move, fellow Edison Middle School teacher and Oklafan.com Senior Editor C. M. Burnham asked to be part of the card all in support of raising funds for their students.

Many members of the Edison wrestling club and thier famies and friends packed Sheridan Avenue Christian Church Friday night to see the first round in a tournament to determine the #1 contender to the ComPro Oklahoma X Division Title. Among the first round matches was a pairing of 2 former champions as Cold Blooded Chris took on Justin Lee. But this time, things would be a bit different as C. M. Burnham, who has been quite vocal in his criticism of Justin, accompanied "The Broken Arrow Bad Boy" to the ring and served as a manager during this bout. The match saw a tremendous contrast of styles as Justin used technical acuity and high-flying maneouvres to counter the size and power of C. B. C. After about 10 minutes of this thrilling match, Justin hit one of his patented finishers and covered the "Plus Size Playa" for the pin to advance in the tournament.

This reporter spoke to C. M. Burnham in the Oklafan offices the next day, where he offered the following about his managerial foray: "I'd like to thank the management of ComPro for the opportunity to let me fulfill the final dream I had in this business. I've written for practically every federation in the state and I've had the opportunity to sit at ringside and call the action of some of the best matches I've seen, but the one thing that I never had the chance to do until now was to manage. ComPro allowed me to live that dream and I hope that some of my observations from ringside helped Justin in his quest to become the #1 contender. This was a one-time thing, so I can't be with him tomorrow night as he goes to the 2nd round, but I'll be in the crowd encouraging him as much as I can."

C. M. Burnham wasn't the only Edison instructor to experience success that night. The show opened with ComPro commissioner Kitty calling Lakewood & Weller out to the ring along with ComPro Champion Romero Contreras. Romero thanked the fans for coming out, but before he got any further, former champion Anthony Jackson appeared on the scene. Jackson said he thought it was a fundraiser for Memorial High School (Edison's rival school) and was wearing a Memorial jersey. He also wondered where the Edison wrestling coach was, since both Lakewood & Weller are football coaches. And as if that weren't enough, the remaining members of La M followed Jackson into the ring and, of course, Ray Martinez had plenty to say. He announced to the crowd that he had come to the show because he'd heard that it was a benefit to tear the school down. He went on to say that the Edison was the worst school in the city academically and athletically and that they had the ugliest students, a comment that did nothing to endear him to the crowd or the coaches across the ring. A shoving contest ensued and it took all ComPro referees to keep the 2 threesomes apart until the main event. As usual, Jackson had to have the last word and promised that, when he was through, all Lakewood & Weller would be coaching would be Special Olympics.

When it came time for the main event, both teams were more than ready. Things went the way of the Edison team at first, with both Jackson & Martinez diving for cover every chance they could get. But evenetually, Lakewood missed a high-flying move and La M & Jackson took advantage. Help came from Weller, but his inexperience allowed him to be cornered as well. But a hot tag to Lakewood, along with some help from "The Franchise" wrapped things up as "Flyin Brian" put Ray Martinez's shoulders to the mat for the 3-count.

The Edison Wrestling Club raised plenty of money from this event and Lakewood has been very vocal in his gratitude for the members of ComPro in their support. While the coaches' game was over, Justin Lee and the other surviving X Division members prepared themselves for the next night and the finals of the tournament which guaranteed a title shot to one of them.
