ICF reforms for one afternoon

ICF reforms for one afternoon

Posted: Apr 14th 2006 By: oklastaff

One of the more controversial factions in Oklahoma wrestling history reformed last Sunday when Justin Lee and Kenny Campbell reteamed as the ICF.

Innovative Combat Federation (or ICF, as it was better known) was the name of a backyard wrestling federation that was run by Justin Lee in the late 1990s. But unlike most backyard feds, ICF prided itself on storylines and tried to stay away from the more horrific action that draws negative media attention.

In 2001, Justin Lee and Kenny Campbell, then known as Outcast, made their debut in OPW. They were joined by Vanessa, who had never been a member of the backyard fed, and the ICF became one of the most popular factions in OPW. The backyard roster would regularly come to the OPW shows to cheer on their alumni and Justin was the first to bring fame to the ICF name by capturing the OPW Oklahoma Light Heavyweight Title from Dexter Hardaway.

Both Justin and Kenny were light heavyweights and soon after the formation of OCW, they found themselves at odds. Justin continually denied Kenny a shot at the Light Heavyweight Title and the fans rallied behind the Outcast. Kenny was finally given a shot in a "Loser-Leaves-OCW" and captured the title, forcing Justin Lee to leave the company. He would return at the Southern States Super 8 Tournament, where he would defeat Outcast in the 1st round.

ICF would reform in December of 2002, but would never rise to the heights they had acheived before. They would team together for about 1 month before Kenny turned on Justin in a 6-man tag team match and joined Rocco Valentino and the VIP Crew.

Although the name of the ICF was brought up several times over the next few years, no one ever believed that there would be a reunion. Justin has competed primarily for TPW while Kenny has been very critical of that company. But at the FCW show last Sunday, those issues were set aside and Justin & Kenny reformed ICF to take on Bernard Funk & SRPW X Division Champion Mitch Carter. Justin & Kenny seemed to be having a great time together and, despite not having teamed together for over 3 years, there didn?t seem to be any rust to their teamwork as they gained a victory over their mismatched opponents.
