IZW's "March Mayhem" sees the end of a career
Posted: Mar 19th 2008 By: mikeiles
In old western movies, the classic line is "This town ain't big enough for the two of us". Well that classic line became reality as IZW and the sport of pro wrestling just wasn't big enough for both John O'Malley and Brad Michaels. Something had to be done. The bad blood between them had reached fever pitch. And now Bad Brad is no longer a pro wrestler.
The relationship between O'Malley and Michaels has been documented. Michaels got O'Malley in the business and they were even members of The Old School Assassins at the same time. They have been tag team partners, they have been traveling partners. As of late they have been bitter enemies. Michaels put O'Malley on the injured list and it was believed that O'Malley's career was over. But he came back and stalked Michaels. Bad Brad tried using his clout as a member of Impact, Inc. to avoid confrontation with O'Malley. But eventually the two sides agreed that they would meet in a Loser-Must-Retire Dog Collar Match at the biggest show 2008 in the state of Oklahoma. IZW's "March Mayhem".
The packed crowd at The Impact Arena anticipated a great match and they weren't disappointed. O'Malley and Michaels brawled in the ring and on the floor. They brawled all the way around the crowd and to the concession stand. They even brawled out the main entrance. IZW security and IZW Commissioner Mike Iles kept the fans out of harm's way while the two combatants continued their hate filled brawl. O'Malley was busted open by the chain and his face was covered with the proverbial crimson mask. Michaels delivered his patented Piledriver on O'Malley and it looked as if the end was near for O'Malley. But he kicked out much to the delight of the fans and the dismay of Michaels. Bad Brad then went for a 2nd Piledriver but it was blocked by O'Malley. Several minutes later, O'Malley put the period at the end of Bad Brad's career when he delivered a Piledriver of his own and picked up the win. O'Malley soaked in the cheers of the fans as he left for the locker room. Then the fans began singing "Na Na Na Na Hey Hey Hey Goodbye" to Bad Brad Michaels.
Bad Brad Michaels may have been one of the most hated wrestlers in Oklahoma, and it showed last year as the readers of Oklafan voted him Most Hated Wrestler of 2007. But he is also one of the most decorated. In Oklahoma based feds, he has been IZW Impact Division Champion twice, IZW Tag Team Champion twice, MSWA Mid-South Heavyweight Champion, MSWA Tri-State Champion, and NMS Tri-State Champion.
We said last week that wrestling in Oklahoma will never be the same. So long Bad Brad Michaels. Love him or hate him, he made an indelible mark on the sport of pro wrestling in Oklahoma.
Other News & Notes from "March Mayhem:
Angel Williams defeated IZW Heavyweight Champion Tommy Revell for the title. This marks the first IZW title Williams has won in his illustrious career. He has held the MSWA Mid-South Heavyweight Title on 3 occasions, and the ACW Heavyweight Title as well as tag team titles. Noticeably absent at ringside was Revell's advisor Marianne Albright.
Nathan Sensation & Striker won the IZW Tag Team Titles from The New Age Syndicate. The team of Sensation & Striker have come a long way since feuding in late 2007 and Striker running Sensation through grueling workouts. But it seems to have paid off. It was also good to see Brieanna Bringle back at ringside with Sensation & Striker. Then again it is always good to see Brieanna Bringle just about anywhere.
Congratulations goes out to Jermaine Johnson on picking up his first win of his career and in his professional wrestling debut. Defeating a star the caliber of Michael Barry is no small feat! Johnson is the most recent graduate from IZW's Impact Academy.
The fans were on their feet when Dustin Heritage defeated IZW Impact Division Champion Kenny Campbell. However when Campbell began complaining that his foot was under the rope, IZW Commissioner Mike Iles concurred and restarted the match. Campbell attacked Heritage from behind and picked up the win in a matter of seconds. The fans showed their displeasure and directed a lot towards the commish. But he did the right thing and had to be fair.
John Zorthos defeated Mitch Carter in a Ladder Match to start the show. Due to Johnny Z's win, Carter is banned from becoming a member of the IZW roster. This came as somewhat of a surprise to the fans although Johnny Z came in undefeated in Ladder Matches.
The fallout of "March Mayhem" continues this Saturday at The Impact Arena. Tickets for all IZW events are only $5, still the best value for your wrestling dollar. Doors open at 6pm with a 7pm bell time.
