Pro wrestler who hit seven-figure Shohei Ohtani card selling it to help his dad

Posted: Oct 28th 2026 By: Larry Holder

If there’s ever another professional wrestler who would be well within his rights to wear a trading card on his neck, walk down the aisle and hop into a ring after Logan Paul did it at WrestleMania 38 with a rare Pokémon card, that person would be Arik Cannon.

Cannon, a 44-year-old independent wrestler, hopped in an online box break hosted by East West Bats in March because the 2025 Topps MLB MVP set featuring Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge cards drew his interest. It cost him around $250 for a randomized spot in the break, where a wheel spin landed him the Dynasty Black spot.

On the one hand, Topps Dynasty Black are some of the company’s most premium and elusive cards, with just four produced to date (three in the 2024 Topps Ohtani 50/50 set, the one Ohtani in the 2025 MLB MVP set and a Clayton Kershaw card commemorating his 3,000th career strikeout, which was released as part of a Topps Now offering). On the other hand, Cannon’s chances of getting anything for his $250 were the slimmest possible since there was literally just one Dynasty Black card within the entire print run of the set: an incredibly valuable, one-of-a-kind Shohei Ohtani MLB Logoman patch autographed card. The patch came off Ohtani’s jersey that he wore during his historic 2025 NLCS Game 4 outing, where he nailed three home runs as a designated hitter and struck out 10 batters as a pitcher.

And with no interference from outside the ring or foreign object necessary, Cannon got the cleanest win of his life. The breakers revealed the redemption card for one of the most historically significant baseball cards ever created.

“It was one of those moments where I had to ask like a handful of times, ‘That’s mine, right? That’s my spot? Please let me know that I’m correct in thinking that’s mine before I start jumping up and down in the living room here,’” Cannon said.

And now the card will give Cannon a seven-figure payday.

A Fanatics Collect auction for the Ohtani 2025 Topps Dynasty Black MLB Logoman patch autographed card ended Thursday night, with the card selling for $3.24 million, making it the third highest publicly known Ohtani card sale to date.

Ohtani’s most expensive card sale occurred a couple of months ago. His 2026 Topps Chrome Back-to-Back dual Gold Logoman dual patch autographed card sold for $11 million in a private sale. But the game-worn patch didn’t come from one of the most absurd playoff performances in sports history like the 2025 Black Dynasty card.

“I think I can say without a question, it’s probably the best origin for a patch that we’ve ever seen,” Fanatics Collect vice president Kevin Lenane said. “The game it came from, it’s hard to imagine somebody not named Ohtani doing that again. Honestly, it’s almost impossible for him to even do it again. So the provenance on the patch is just wild. It’s such a high bar on three home runs and 10 strikeouts as a pitcher. That might be the greatest game of baseball ever played. So the fact that the patch came from there, for me as a collector purist, I love that. I couldn’t do any better than that for me.”

The 2026 Topps Chrome dual Gold MLB Logoman patch autographed one-of-one card of Ohtani and Aaron Judge also topped the $1 million mark in the same auction, selling for $1.23 million. Last year’s version of this Ohtani and Judge card sold for $2.1 million in March. The two Ohtani cards that sold Thursday night push him into double digits in terms of publicly known $1 million card sales. He now has 11 $1 million sales since March 2025 and nine seven-figure sales since March 2026.

As for what Cannon will do with the money from the Dynasty Black auction, the St. Paul, Minn., native who currently lives in River Falls, Wis., said helping a family member in need will come first.

“In August 2023, we lost my mom to cancer, and it’s been really, really rough on my dad,” Cannon said. “So the first thing I’m going to do is I’m going pay off all his debt. And then I don’t know what my other options are at, but it’ll be more than enough to take care of him. Whatever’s left over for me, I’m probably just going to put it away and make sure that I don’t become one of those cliché Powerball winners that had money and now it’s gone.”

This also isn’t the first time Cannon struck luck with one of Topps’ premier patch cards. He landed a 2025 Topps Chrome Update MLB Debut patch autographed card of the Washington Nationals’ Dylan Crews in another online box break. Cannon said he linked up with someone with close ties to Crews to get the card back to the outfielder.

“My thought was this card is not going to mean more to anyone other than Dylan and his family,” Cannon said.

As for ever wearing the card on a necklace to the ring like WWE star and avid trading card hobbyist Logan Paul, that was never going to be in the cards for Cannon. The card never landed in Cannon’s hands as the Fanatics Vault housed the card ever since he redeemed it.

Cannon acknowledged in jest that maybe one of those reinforced carrying cases for trading cards could become part of his wrestling gimmick at this point given his good fortune with the hobby.
