Adam Copeland recalls teenage Christian Cage jumping into Demolition’s car

Posted: Oct 22nd 2026 By: Ian Carey

According to Adam Copeland, a 16-year-old Christian Cage climbed uninvited into Demolition’s car 36 years ago today.

In a documentary released Monday by Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, Copeland recalled having attended a WWE house show that featured Demolition’s Ax, Smash, and Crush wrestling the Ultimate Warrior and Legion of Doom at Maple Leaf Gardens. Although Copeland didn’t specify the date the show took place, according to Cagematch, Demolition wrestled Warrior and LOD at Maple Leaf Gardens on October 21, 1990, 36 years ago today.

Copeland said he and Cage would sometimes “stage ambushes” of wrestlers in the parking lot. On this occasion, Cage jumped into the car of Crush (Brian Adams).

Copeland said:

“This street and this entrance is where Jay and I used to come and annoy and accost all of the wrestlers coming in. We found out that they would park back here and come into the building. So we would always just kind of stage ambushes.

“And I’ll never forget the one in particular, and I think it was the last show I came to here. It was Demolition versus Legion of Doom and the Ultimate Warrior.

“Jay and I were both big Demolition guys, so we came running out here and Demolition was packing their car and Brian Adams, Crush, was in the front seat. And Jay hopped in the front seat with Brian Adams and just started telling him all of his career highlights and everything like that.

“And I was back at the trunk with Ax and Smash annoying them. Years later, Jay’s on a flight. Who sits down beside him? Brian Adams, Crush. And Jay told him the story and he actually still remembered it. And that all happened right here.“

Copeland defeated Steve Maclin in the main event of MLP Northern Rising at the former Maple Leaf Gardens, now known as the Mattamy Athletic Centre. After the show, Copeland said during the post-event press conference that he believes wrestling at Maple Leaf Gardens is likely a “white whale” for Christian as well.

Copeland also revealed on the October 14 episode of AEW Dynamite that Cage suffered three broken ribs and a collapsed lung during the ladder match at AEW All Out. Up next for Copeland, he is scheduled to team with Will Ospreay in a match against Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
