Jim Ross feeling ‘a lot better,’ broken toes slowing progress
Posted: Sep 10th 2026 By: Joseph Currier
Jim Ross is feeling “a lot better” after his recent health challenges, but two broken toes are slowing his progress.
On his Grilling JR podcast this week, Ross — a fixture of the Oklahoma football community — said it was a dream come true to be back at the Sooners’ stadium for their blowout win over UTEP last week. Ross is a huge University of Oklahoma fan but has not been able to attend games for a while due to all of his health issues. Things are getting better, even if it’s not as quickly as Ross would like.
“I sit here at home and tell myself that I’m a lot better — and I am a lot better,” he said. “If my two toes in my left foot weren’t broken, my balance wouldn’t be as adversely affected as it is right now. I still got to be careful when I walk to not fall. Falling is JR’s enemy.”
The 74-year-old Ross suffered these broken toes when he fell at home on the morning of his August 12 brain surgery. That surgery was successful, and Ross is hoping to make his return to AEW commentary at All Out on September 26 as long as these broken toes continue to heal.
“My life is getting more structured under the new circumstances of my health,” Ross said. “And if my f***ing toes weren’t broken, I’d be way down the road. I can’t do as much physical therapy as far as walking or moving on my feet because of my broken toes. So, damned if you do, damned if you don’t. When they’re healed, and they’re healing slowly, I’ll be right back in the saddle. No doubt about it.”
Jim Ross gives weight update —
Ross is looking and sounding better than he did before his brain surgery. He noted that, from his highest-ever weight, he’s lost about 50 pounds. The lowest weight that he got to was 185 or 186 pounds, and he is now at 208.
Twice per week, Ross has home health care nurses coming in to check on him. They change the dressing on the wound Ross has on his left ankle from skin cancer treatment years ago. While that treatment was successful, the wound from radiation has never fully healed.
