Jim Ross ‘disappointed’ he can’t make trip to AEW All In 2026

Jim Ross was hoping to make the trip to London for AEW All In 2026, but that just won’t be possible this soon after brain surgery.

The 74-year-old Ross underwent surgery on August 12 where he had a shunt installed into his brain. Now two weeks removed from the operation, he returned to his Grilling JR podcast this week and gave an update on how he’s doing. Ross noted that he’s feeling “pretty good” and healing slowly but surely. He did suffer a fall in his bedroom two nights ago when he fell into a bench his late wife Jan got for the edge of their bed. Thankfully, Ross’ handyman was able to fix the broken bench given the sentimental value it has.

Headaches have been “prominent and bad” for Ross after surgery, and he has an appointment on Thursday with his brain surgeon to have those symptoms explained. He wishes the healing process was faster, but his surgeon said he’s being too impatient. Ross’ co-host Conrad Thompson did say that he can already tell Ross is improving.

Being a fall risk is one of the reasons Ross can’t make the flight to London. Multiple doctors advised him against taking the risk given how bad it could be if he fell on the plane or ended up in a hospital overseas. Ross is disappointed but understanding of the situation.

“I really wanted to go to London this week. I really did, man,” he said. “You got to have goals and you got to have destinations, and that was my next one. And I thought, man, if I could get to Wembley Stadium. because the show is going to be amazing. I mean, there’s some matchups that are just — I know the term dream match is used a lot in wrestling, but literally, there’s some dream matches, in my view, that are going to be on the Sunday night show on pay-per-view. And I’m not going to just hype the hell out of everything, but if you’re a fan and love wrestling, this Sunday night show is one that you might want to check out. Because there’s some matches on there that I thought, as a broadcaster, I can’t wait to call.

“But both my brain surgeon and another doctor confided and said, ‘You need to stay your ass off the airplane. Because if you fall or get hurt, they got to make an emergency landing or you fall in London and you got to go to a London hospital, it’s not worth the risk.’ So I understand it. I’m disappointed. Very disappointed. And I’ll be watching for sure. But that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m 74 years old, But I am feeling better. I just got to get back to myself thinking about things, remembering things.”

Ross’ AEW contract has been set to expire at some point this month. If that situation hasn’t been resolved yet, it doesn’t sound like Ross is worrying about a potential departure. He called himself “biased” toward AEW and had high praise for the product. Ross said he can’t wait to get back on commentary.

“So I’m healing. Not as fast as I’d like, but I am healing,” Ross said. “And we’re moving right along, man. Moving right along. I’m anxious to get this stuff behind me before I get back to do some work. I miss calling matches. I’m proud of what AEW has done. They’ve had a hell of a week. A good TV show Wednesday night, I thought. But that’s not news, that’s just the way it’s been.”
Jim Ross receiving good care —

Ross said he’s receiving good care from his doctors, his family, and those around him. He was thinking of moving from Norman to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be closer to his oldest daughter who has been helping him out. It doesn’t sound like Ross will be making that move, though, with him saying he doesn’t want to disrupt his medical treatment. In Norman, Ross is just minutes away from the medical team he’s been working with.
