GCW comments on Arik Cannon’s comments about Avery Styles
Posted: Aug 11th 2026 By: Josh Nason
GCW released a brief statement about the latest controversy to take over pro wrestling social media chatter this weekend: Arik Cannon’s comments regarding Avery Styles not helping with setup at a GCW event earlier this month.
Cannon took to X on Saturday to dispute a Nattie claim that Styles, the son of AJ Styles, wanted to “pay his dues” and then had a very public exchange with AJ regarding the situation that drew comments and opinions from all corners of social media
Meltzer had the following statement from GCW which he shared in Monday’s Daily Update:
“Regarding the AJ Styles and Avery Styles comments, GCW has contacted us to say that while they respect and like Arik Cannon, he does not speak for GCW, he speaks for himself.”
Cannon is not an employee of GCW, but owns Minnesota-based F1RST Wrestling which co-promoted events with GCW during WWE SummerSlam week/weekend in Minneapolis. He was at the GCW show where Styles took on Marcus Mathers where the alleged refusal to set up chairs took place.
After the exchange, Cannon got into an exchange with WWE NXT’s Lexis King and shared images of both Cody Rhodes and Jimmy Hart helping out at indie shows while also continuing to debate his detractors. Styles has not commented after two replies to Cannon on Saturday.
