The King Has Seen It All

The King Has Seen It All

Jerry "The King" Lawler will have one of the best seats in the house at WrestleMania 24 at the Citrus Bowl on March 30. He'll be right where he is every Monday night during WWE's flagship show, Raw, sitting ringside and calling the action alongside longtime broadcast partner Jim Ross.

So what does he think about as he gets set to be on the biggest stage in the wrestling universe?

"One of the first things that comes to mind for J. R. and I is the fact that we definitely have to go to the bathroom before the show because it's four hours long," Lawler admitted.

Well, that's honest. But it's not the only thing on his mind.

"One of the things I think about is how year after year --- and I started with the WWE in 1993 and have done quite a few WrestleManias --- it amazes me how each year somehow we seem to top the previous year," he said.

And you can count Lawler among the many people here in Orlando that WrestleMania is coming to town.

"I'm really looking forward to it from a selfish standpoint because Orlando is one of my all-time favorite cities," he said. "There's just so much to do down here. Not to say anything bad about other cities but like last year we were in Detroit and other than the WrestleMania show itself, there really wasn't a whole lot to do other than look outside your hotel room and watch Cops being filmed."

That is vintage Lawler as he has been able to use his sharp tongue and witty mind to make a seamless transition to the broadcast booth after becoming a wrestler nearly 40 years ago.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame last year for his stellar in-ring career that features 126 titles, including the AWA championship. He's not done wrestling yet; he still dons the tights on occasion for the WWE and smaller wrestling promotions. Somehow, after all these years, there is one item missing from his r?sum? --- a match at WrestleMania.

"That would be the final jewel in my crown to erase that one smear in my career in that I've never wrestled on one," he said. "Yeah, I'd love to have any kind of match at WrestleMania but I'm not worried about it. I'm content to sit over there with Good Ol' J. R. and call the action and be a part of it in that respect."
