AWOL Scores Strike Two In Romero's Title Quest

AWOL Scores Strike Two In Romero's Title Quest

Posted: Jan 31st 2008 By: CMBurnham

It seemed as if FCW Tag Team Champion Romero Contreras had everything thought of as he once again had a chance to win the ComPro Title from Anthony Jackson. He had negated the Hall of Famers. He had a special referee who he believed wouldn't be intimidated. And he had mometum on his side with victories in tag team and non-title matches against Jackson.

But not everything could be predicted. Contreras entered the match believing he had things going for him. But he exited the match once again tasting the bitterness of betrayal as special referee AWOL joined Jackson in a 2-on-1 attack before ending the match.

This occurrence seemed odd on the surface, but a quicker exploration of AWOL's past reveals that it is not at all out of character for the burly former Oklahoma champion. AWOL turned his back on his own country several times, spending over 2 years as a member of the New Canada faction. He also had a brief association with the Disciples of Allah in SWCW. AWOL has always been a better one to follow when others are giving the orders and now, as the newest member of the Hall of Famers, AWOL is sure to provide the muscle that had been lacking in the group before.

Contreras was irate at his loss. And while no official statement has been revealed, it would not be a surprise for Jackson to hide behind the 30-day rule to avoid defending his title against Contreras for another month. However, at this point, it seems that Contreras may be more interested in gaining revenge on AWOL before chasing the big belt again.
