Halo Has Lethal Idea For MSWA
Posted: Jan 24th 2008 By: CMBurnham
The job of commissioner isn't just one of enforcing the rules. A federation commissioner also has to have his finger on the pulse of the fans to find out what it is that they want to see. And sometimes, they can use innovative solutions to deal with persistant problems.
MSWA commissioner Halo has had his hands full ever since Al Farat won the MSWA Mid-South title in a battle royal last year. While it's true that he has defended the title, it's been with increasing irregularity. And while he's been willing to defend his title, he often seems to be handpicking his opponents, resulting in mismatches such as his defence against The Kamikaze Kid. Other times he has relied on outside interference from his manager Jin Soon to gain victories over such stars as Javi Hernandez, Montego Seeka, UWF06 Champion Joe Herell or even veterans like Doink the Clown.
Commissioner Halo probably has justification to step in and strip Farat of his title, but given the recent history of champions not losing that title in the ring, it seems likely that he wants to give the fans a more satisfactory solution to the problem. So, with that in mind, Halo came to the ring Sunday to address the crowd. He told them that there was no #1 contender to the MSWA Mid-South Title, but he'd come up with a way to solve that problem. Halo then announced the first ever MSWA Lethal Lotto series. This concept puts all the wrestlers' names in a hat and they would be drawn randomly in pairs. These pairs will then be matched against each other. The winning pair in the tournament will then face each other in a 1-on-1 match to determine the #1 contender to Farat's title. So, even though the pairings probably won't like each other, they'll have to co-operate in order to advance in the tournament for a chance to beat each other up in hopes of getting a title shot out of it.
Even though Halo said the pairings would be random, that didn't stop Halo from taking action to put a stop to some bullying action that had been going on for a few weeks. Three shows back, Se7en made his return to MSWA and put on an exhibition against newcomer Jason Kirby. He easily defeated Kirby after showing him some basic wrestling holds. The next show, Kirby was back out for some more and this time, Se7en was a little more aggressive in his treatment of the rookie. This week, Kirby ventured forth one more time and, while he was able to get some more offence in against the veteran, the outcome was still the same. However, after the submission victory, Se7en attacked Kirby until Halo got in the ring and confronted him. Halo then turned to tend to Kirby, which gave Se7en an opening to attack the commissioner from behind, but Halo turned around before Se7en could follow through. Halo then made an announcement. He said that, from bell to bell, everything that went on in the ring was Se7en's time, but after that 2nd bell rang, they were on the commish's time. As punishment for Se7en's actions, Halo was officially entering him in the Lethal Lotto tournament. And his partner would be...Jason Kirby. So, the young inexperienced rookie that Se7en had been taking advantage of was now the partner that he needed to protect. Se7en knows he can beat Kirby, but he has to get through the tournament to do that. And he has to protect his partner to accomplish that end.
What other odd couple pairings might we see from this concept? And, with the lack of tag teams in MSWA, might there be some long-term partnerships that grow out of this event? All this is just speculation right now, but when the tournament is over, Farat will have one driven and determined man waiting to challenge him for that belt.
