Update on controversial comment made during WWE Raw segment

An update regarding a controversial line in a backstage segment on WWE Raw last night is available.
During a segment involving Adam Pearce and Damage CTRL, Carlito said, “I got to learn Chinese,” as IYO Sky and Kairi Sane, both of whom are Japanese, walked out of frame. The line has since been edited out of digital clips on social media.
Fightful Select reported on Tuesday that the line was not scripted and that some in WWE were unhappy it was said.
Bryan Alvarez has since confirmed the news, writing, “Confirmed from multiple sources that the Carlito Chinese line was an ad lib” to his subscribers on X.
The segment took place as Carlito was in Pearce’s office to request a World title shot against Gunther for his Judgement Day stablemate Dominik Mysterio. Pearce then said that if Dominik can beat a former world champion on next week’s show, he will consider it.
